I’ve been reading a lot of novellas lately, and it seems like I always give them three stars. In this case, I really wanted to give it more than three stars, because Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite authors, and the Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series. I did really like the other novellas in the series (especially Glitches), but this one just didn’t do it for me.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s still well-written. Marissa Meyer is somehow capable of shoving more feelings and emotions into an android than many authors are capable of putting into a human. I felt bad for Mech6.0. I wanted things to turn out her way. Maybe I didn’t like this novella as much because it was just so short, and I had no background information on the character to work off of. I’m not really sure.
It’s still a worthy read for any fan of the Lunar Chronicles, but it is, in my opinion, the weakest of Meyer’s stories. Unfortunately. I really wanted to like it more.
Final rating: ★★★☆☆
