ARC review: Royal Affair by Marquita Valentine

Goodreads   Amazon

Princess Charlotte Sinclair is just trying to avoid bringing any more shame to her family.  Exiled from their homeland, the royal Sinclairs have been through enough without the princess causing any more trouble. The trouble is that there’s nothing Charlotte wants more than Brooks Walker, a drop-dead-sexy journalist with no qualms about dragging her family through the mud.

The first couple chapters of Royal Affair were included in the back of Royal Scandal, so I was already looking forward to this book months ago.  I knew that I’d love Charlotte just from that little excerpt.  (And, let’s be honest, I had no problem with Brooks, either.)  One thing that I do want to mention is although this book is about different characters, and Colin and Della really aren’t featured too heavily here, you really do need to read Royal Scandal first in order to understand what’s going on. Even just taking a couple months between books left me scrambling to remember what exactly had happened in the previous installment.

Anyway – Though Charlotte and Brooks are opposites, they have such an obvious connection that I couldn’t help but root for them. Sure, there are some dramatics that interfere with their happily-ever-after, but both these characters deserved the world.  And, as you might expect, though their affair starts as a breezy “I’ll call you when I want you” kind of thing, soon they’re head-over-heels for each other and not quite sure what to do about it.

I did really enjoy their relationship, and the book was well-written as all of Marquita Valentine’s books are, but there were some conflicts within the book that felt unnecessary or were difficult to follow. Theo’s book is up next, and of course I will read (and probably love) it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
