Book review: Hate Loving You by Amelia Wilde

Growing up, Dex and Abby were close friends – and occasionally, something more.  But things never quite worked out for them, and some harsh words exchanged at the Overlook forever changed things between them.  Now, eight years later, a chance meeting brings all of those repressed feelings to the surface, but can Dex and Abby get over their past trauma – and their new, adult problems – to rekindle their old feelings?

I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, so I had no qualms about jumping straight into this one.  I was so happy that Dex was a down-to-earth mechanic and not some gross billionaire alpha who’s used to getting everything he wants – I know that’s such a thing in the genre but I am so sick of it.  I was also happy that Abby was her own person with her own successful career who was totally capable of standing up for herself and getting what she wanted.

I loved Abby and Dex together.  They clearly had deep, lasting feelings and enough history to overcome just about anything.  The thing that I didn’t like was how they let such petty drama get in the way for so long.  Call me crazy, but I really don’t think that the big drama of the book was actually that big of a deal.  For that reason, I have to be honest and say that I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes in such a short book.

Still, it’s a cute, sexy romance about teenage lovers/friends who reconnect in adulthood.  This was my first book by Amelia Wilde, but I’ll keep an eye out for more from her in the future.
