Happy Top Ten Tuesday! I think I’ve been into music just as long as I’ve been into books, so for today’s love-themed freebie, I decided to go with ten songs I’d love to see as romance novels. Do you ever construct the plot to a novel in your head while you’re listening to a song? No? I’m just weird? Okay.
Click the music note to listen.

Steel Train was Jack Antonoff’s band before he became the guitarist in fun., the frontman of Bleachers, and a famous music producer. Everything about the song and the video reminds me of high school – from the lyrics to the concert they’re showing. It also sounds like the flashback at the beginning of a second chance romance. 🎵
I didn’t know just what was going on
When all my guts were telling me to run
I stuck around when I should have been there with you
Now after all that we lost, I swear I’ll never let go

If Punk Rock Princess were a book, it would be a cute YA romance about two kids that are in a band together. It would definitely be some nonsense, but I’m like 108% sure that I’d love it. This song is one of my favorite pop-punk anthems. It takes me straight back to high school each time. 🎵
If I could be your first real heartache
I would do it over again
If you could be my punk rock princess
I would be your heroin

It’s been ten years since All Time Low’s “So Wrong It’s Right” came out, and somehow Remembering Sunday can still make me cry. This would be an absolutely heartbreaking book. 🎵
Even though she doesn’t believe in love
He’s determined to call her bluff
Who could deny these butterflies?

This would be the cutest of cutesy YA romances, and I am here for it. 🎵
I scanned the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I’d like a beating
I said that’s one thing I won’t be needing
And since I’m rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning…

This would probably be one of those slow-burn romances where we don’t even get a kiss until 97%. The hero would spend the majority of the book trying to convince the heroine to go out on a date with him. Of course, once she agrees, everything is magical and perfect. 🎵
I swear
We could be gigantic
Everything I need

I’ve talked before about how much I utterly adore Taylor Swift, and her newest album is no exception. It’s a really different direction for her with much more grown-up songs. This song, in particular, is about finding that one person that makes everything in your past worth it. The book would be about a girl who’s given up on love and told herself she’s content with being single… who then finds the love of her life in the last place she’d ever think to look. 🎵
Is this the end of all the endings?
My broken bones are mending
With all these nights we’re spending
Up on the roof with a schoolgirl crush
Drinking beer out of plastic cups
Say you fancy me, not fancy stuff
Baby, all at once this is enough

Typically, when you think of Blink-182, you think of songs about teenagers being stupid, not love songs. This song of theirs, released in 1999, perfectly encapsulates that feeling when you’re transitioning from high school to college and you’re desperately hoping that your relationships will last. This would be a cute YA novel, I’m sure. 🎵
Why does it feel the same to fall in love or break it off?
And if young love is just a game then I must’ve missed the kickoff
Don’t depend on me to ever follow through on anything but
I’d go through hell for you
I haven’t been this scared in a long time
And I’m so unprepared, so here’s your valentine
Bouquet of clumsy words
A simple melody
The world’s an ugly place
But you’re so beautiful to me

I feel like most people would probably choose Such Great Heights, which is definitely another awesome song by The Postal Service, but I’m partial to Be Still My Heart. It paints such a vivid picture of the beginning of a relationship and I love it so much. 🎵
When I left you were fast asleep
Tangled in the sheets
And on the bus, I could’ve sworn it was all a dream
It didn’t happen to me

Give me all the classic pop-punk songs, I guess. Hurricane is another song that sounds like the beginning of a relationship. I can see this being a great NA romance. 🎵
You don’t do it on purpose but you make me shake
Now I count the hours til you wake
With your baby’s breath breathe symphonies
Come on, sweet catastrophe

I never thought I’d say it, but this song by Taylor Swift would make a decent erotic novel. That is, once you get through the 200 pages of build-up. 🎵
All of this silence and patience
Pining and anticipation
My hands are shaking from holding back from you
All of this silence and patience
Pining and desperately waiting
My hands are shaking from all this
Say my name and everything just stops
I don’t want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
What songs can you imagine as books?
