It’s time for another Monthly Motif reading challenge update! In June, the theme was crack the case, so it was all about mysteries! I don’t read a lot of mysteries, but with the help of some of my favorite bloggers, I came up with a couple choices! ❤ I ended up really enjoying both books, so I think this whole mystery thing might be here to stay.
Books read:
- Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
- Faithful Place by Tana French
Books not read:
- People Like Us by Dana Mele, which I might still read in the next couple days if my library hold ever comes in!
- Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz, which was recommended by spinesthatshine. I didn’t get to it this month, but I put it on my library wishlist!
- The Dry by Jane Harper, which was recommended by miscellanypages. I also didn’t get to it this month but it’s also on my library wishlist!
July’s theme is vacation reads, which works out pretty nicely since I’m headed back home to Wisconsin for a few days, so I guess I’ll be sharing the books that I read on the plane! I’m also headed to Virginia for a bit at the end of July, so I might as well share the books I read there, too. (It’s a long drive, so maybe an audiobook will do the trick.)
Previously: January | February | March | April | May
Are you participating in the Monthly Motif reading challenge? If so, what did you read for this month’s prompt? Do you have any favorite mysteries that I should check out? Or, looking forward, do you have any recommendations for what I should read in July?
People like us looks interesting!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. You make me want to get back into mysteries, I’m thinking of reading big little lies soon!

Let me know what you think if you read it! I haven’t read that one, but I’ve seen a lot of great reviews.

Hmm, I don’t read that many mysteries either, but I’d be interested if you discovered any good ones! (love the idea of a monthly motif btw) Have fun at home! 😀

I love the Monthly Motif challenge! I think it’s my favorite reading challenge that I’ve done so far because it pushes me out of my reading comfort zone, but I’m not forced to read books that I know I’m going to hate just to check a box.
Truly Devious and Faithful Place are REALLY different books, but I enjoyed both of them! My review of Faithful Place will be up later today and my review of Truly Devious will be up on Wednesday.

I agree! I liked the idea of this challenge right off the get-go for that very reason. 😉

Both Magpie Murders and The Dry are upcoming book club reads for me, I’ve had both of them sitting in my audible library forever! Enjoy when you get to them! 🥂

When I was serving tables over Christmas break last year, I got into this full fledged conversation about reading when I saw someone reading the Magpie Murders at a table haha. It’s been on my TBR ever since

That’s so cool! I love talking to random people about books. One time this little old lady sat down across from my desk and started recommending romance novels to me. It was great. 🙂 I hope you like Magpie Murders!
