It’s time for another Monthly Motif reading challenge update! In July, the theme was vacation reads, and I actually went on vacation, so here are all the books I read when I was visiting my mom in Wisconsin! None of these reviews are up yet, but they will be within the next couple weeks.
Books read:
- People Like Us by Dana Mele
- Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
- We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
- We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
Books not read:
- I had hoped to read When by Daniel H. Pink on the train ride home, but that didn’t end up happening because all the trains were cancelled. I’ve lived in NJ for six years and the trains are always running! Even in a blizzard! It was the weirdest thing and also super stressful, so I’m glad I’m not planning to take another train anytime soon.
August’s theme is award winners, so please let me know what you think I should read!

Are you participating in the Monthly Motif reading challenge? If so, what did you read for this month’s prompt? Do you usually get a lot of reading done on vacation? Let’s talk in the comments!
I’ve never participated in this reading challenge before but it seems really cool! I read People Like Us by Dana Mele earlier this year and I enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to hearing what you thought of it 🙂 I try to read a lot on vacation but how much I actually read usually depends on how busy I am wherever I go. I read a lot of books on my most recent vacation.

It’s such a fun reading challenge! As for People Like Us, I liked (but didn’t love) it. It reminded me a lot of a CW show, which isn’t a bad thing. 🙂
I’m glad you were able to get a lot of reading done on your last vacation!

How long have you been participating in it? 🙂
I agree, I enjoyed it but didn’t love it. I think I gave it 3.5 stars. Did you it remind you of one show in particular?
Thank you! 🙂

I started at the beginning of the year and I’m definitely planning on doing it next year too. 🙂
I don’t know if it reminded me of any CW show in particular, but I could definitely see it being turned into one! If anything, I got some Pretty Little Liars vibes from it, but I guess that’s not a CW show. 🙂

I’m not sure if I should jump in this late in the year so maybe I’ll wait and start in January!
You’re right, I could definitely see it being turned into a show like that 🙂

I remember you mentioning that you loved The Hating Game, so have you read Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James? The premise is similar to The Hating Game, and it won an award for Best Contemporary Romance according to Goodreads.

I haven’t, but I’ll add it to the list. Thank you!
