Top Ten Tuesday: Books to pull you out of a reading slump

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s theme is books to pull you out of a reading slump.

Ah, the reading slump, my old friend. Most often the result of a book hangover, the reading slump taunts me as I try and fail to care about whatever book I’m attempting to read. Luckily, there are some tried-and-true slump-busters out there! Here are ten books that have worked for me.

The first thing I try to do when I’m in a slump is read some really cute contemporary YA romances!

If that doesn’t work, something by one of my favorite authors usually will!

But yikes, if contemporary YA romances and books by my favorite authors don’t do the trick, I might try mixing it up with a different genre than usual!

And if all else fails, a good audiobook usually does the trick!

What do you do to get out of a reading slump?

I need to read Furiously Happy! I read a sample eons ago, and I remember loving her writing voice, but I wasn’t in the mood for nonfiction. I need to suck it up and plow through it, because I know I’ll love it.

Cute YA contemporary books always manage to get me out of a slump! And I haven’t read Emergency Contact yet, but I do own it! I really want to read it, but I might save it in case I end up in a slump haha 😅 Great picks, Sara!

A great list! Usually I force myself to have a long reading session to power through the book as much as possible, and if that doesn’t work, I put it to the side for another day and officially move on to something else. Life is too short to read things you aren’t enjoying 🙂

I’ve recently discovered that contemporary YA are just the thing to pull me out of a slump! I usually read a lot of pretty deep fantasy and sci-fi books, so it’s light, fluffy YAs that help put my mind into a better space. Sometimes the brain just needs a break from all of the magic, intrigue, and world building!

I needed this! I’ve been in a reading slump for a while and I agree with going for YA contemporaries in the beginning. That’s always a comfortable place to start. 🙂 I’ve heard mixed reviews of Emergency Contact but the premise sounds somewhat interesting!
