Halloweentown: Where is your favorite place to go for Halloween or a place you want to go?

Halloween was never really that big of a deal for me growing up because it was my grandma’s birthday! We’d always go over to her house and I’d trick or treat a little bit in her neighborhood and then we’d celebrate her birthday. When I got older, I never really cared that much about celebrating because it wasn’t something I’d ever really done.

I think it would be fun to do something moderately spooky, but nothing terrifying! My friend wants me to go on this haunted prison tour with her sometime, but I think I might actually die.

Under Wraps: What’s something that used to be scary to you and then you realized it wasn’t just the mummy in this movie?

There was this little bit of sidewalk that kind of dipped down next to the house I grew up in. My mom would tell me to be careful on it, which, as an adult, I realize basically just meant “you’re clumsy, don’t trip.” As a kid, though? I was convinced that the sidewalk was going to open up and I was going to fall down to the other side of the world (or maybe just to the center of the earth, because I was super into Jules Verne at that point in my life). One day a neighbor dared me to walk across it and I didn’t die and my whole worldview was shattered. (In a good way.)

Tower of Terror: What is the scariest place you’ve ever been?

So my uncle has a little cabin in the middle of nowhere in northern Wisconsin. I used to go spend a week or two with his family every summer and it was generally a lot of fun! His son is two days older than me and it’s been a point of contention for the last 28 years (or maybe 27 years, because I don’t think we were arguing about it as infants, but I wouldn’t put it past us) because he always thought he was cooler than me because of it. Anyway, one day he was all like, “Sara, I’m older and you have to listen to what I say and we’re going to play in the cornfield!!” And I was like… “Ugh, fine, I guess we are.” I think we were eight. Anyway, this kid left me alone in the middle of the cornfield and I could not find my way out and it was terrifying. Like, I think that’s the most scared I have ever been in my life. Also, this is pretty much the most stereotypically midwestern story you could have and I’m sorry.

Twitches: If you could be any supernatural creature, what would you be?

I think I’ll stick with Mandy’s answer. It would be pretty cool to be a witch.

Don’t Look Under the Bed: Were you scared of monsters when you were a kid? When did it stop?

YES. I was so convinced that a monster lived under my bed. And that it would come out if I closed my bedroom door, so I slept with my door open for the first… ten or eleven years of my life? I also thought that if any part of me wasn’t covered by the blanket, the monster would get me. I don’t know when I grew out of it, really. We moved right before middle school and I don’t remember worrying about it after that.

Phantom of the Megaplex: Do you watch scary movies? If so, what is your favorite or the one you got most afraid of?

Image result for phantom of the megaplex gif

NOOO. I can’t watch scary movies. I was traumatized by Child’s Play when I was very, very, very young and I have never wanted to watch a scary movie since. I have to really like someone to agree to watch something scary with them.

The Scream Team: Who would be on your dream team if you went on a ghost/supernatural creature hunt?

I’d want Evie O’Neill from The Diviners series and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire: Have you ever witnessed something/someone that could only be explained by the paranormal? If yes, what/who?

The house I grew up in was built in 1884 and I’m like 99.9% convinced that it was at least semi-haunted. There was one night when I was maybe like eight or nine years old that I remember looking up at the ceiling in the dining room and seeing a creepy kid’s face. But we’d also been watching some kind of ghost hunter show on TLC, so it might have all been in my head.

More recently, I am 100% convinced that I have seen the ghost of my cat that died last November. Sometimes I’ll see her out of the corner of my eye when I know that my still living cat is in a very different part of the house. I would be the kind of person to be haunted by a cat, but I’m also okay with it.

Oh, and another one — I was very close to my grandpa when I was a baby. He died when I was two years old and my mom swears that before she got the call from my grandma, she woke up to me giggling. When she went into my room and asked what I was laughing about, I supposedly told her that grandpa said hi. I have no idea if this actually happened or not since I have no memory of it, but that’s the story from my mom. Spooky.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookstores I want to visit

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s theme is bookstores and libraries I’ve always wanted to visit. I love libraries, but I don’t really go out of my way to visit any other than mine. I also don’t really keep a list of bookstores that I want to visit, but I figured it out!

Strand Book Store | New York, NY

In all of the times I’ve been to New York, I’ve never gone to the Strand. Every time I go, I say it’ll be the time that I finally visit it. One of these times, that’ll be the truth.

The Ripped Bodice | Culver City, CA

A bookstore focused solely on romance novels? Sounds like my dream. I’ve never been to California, but if I ever get there, I have to go to this bookstore.

McNally Jackson | New York, NY

Fun fact: I once had a surprise Thanksgiving visitor who worked at McNally Jackson. This is another bookstore I’ve meant to visit many times and have never actually been to.

Book Thug Nation | Brooklyn, NY

I’d never seen or heard of this bookstore before trying to come up with this list, but now I need to go there. This is a used bookstore and if that’s not my favorite thing…

Livraria Lello | Porto, Portugal

Look at it. JUST LOOK AT IT. And I took a semester of intensive Portuguese in college, so I feel like I just need to go there, like, right now.

Selexyz Dominicanen | Maastricht, Netherlands

Again, look at it. JUST LOOK AT IT. This bookstore is in an old church.

Barter Books | Alnwick, England

HOW CUTE IS THIS, I LOVE IT.

Borderlands Books | San Francisco, CA

I know that I don’t read a ton of sci-fi and fantasy, but I still think it would be so cool to visit this bookstore!!

1200 Bookshop | Guangzhou, China

I don’t know that I’m ever going to visit China, but if I do, I would love to visit this bookstore. It’s open 24 hours a day! You can even sleep there if you want!

The Last Bookstore | Los Angeles, CA

I don’t know that I 100% understand the shelving system in this place and I’m like 99.5% sure that going there would stress me out, but I still want to do it.

Did you do your own Top Ten Tuesday post today? Feel free to leave your link and I’ll check out your post! Have you visited any of these places? Where would you most like to go? Let’s talk in the comments!
