Denmark is often said to be the happiest country in the world. That’s down to one thing: hygge.

‘Hygge has been translated as everything from the art of creating intimacy to cosiness of the soul to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things. My personal favourite is cocoa by candlelight…’

You know hygge when you feel it. It is when you are cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one, or sharing comfort food with your closest friends. It is those crisp blue mornings when the light through your window is just right.

Who better than Meik Wiking to be your guide to all things hygge? Meik is CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen and has spent years studying the magic of Danish life. In this beautiful, inspiring book he will help you be more hygge: from picking the right lighting and planning a dinner party through to creating an emergency hygge kit and even how to dress.

Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. He is committed to finding out what makes people happy and has concluded that hygge is the magic ingredient that makes Danes the happiest nation in the world.

The Little Book of Hygge is one of those books that’s been on my TBR for a while but that I never really intended to read any time soon. I’ve seen it in bookstores. It’s usually on display somewhere every time I go to Paper Source. I’ve seen so many reviews of it. But actually taking the time to read it? I don’t know, it just didn’t seem quite worth it.

But winter is well on its way. It’s been a crazy month. I’ve been pretty wrapped up in the Throne of Glass series and I needed something different. A book about why Danish people are so happy sounded like just the thing I needed, and it was. This book made me so happy.

It seems so easy, really. The secret to happiness isn’t money or things. It’s simple things like drinking hot cocoa with a good friend. Or reading a book while wrapped in a fluffy blanket. It’s sending a handwritten letter to someone who’s important to you.

Please excuse me while I do all of the above at the same time.

I so want to read this marvelous book! Yes, happiness is hidden in little things like a book, a cup of warm tea…..or a hug we were not expecting…. …when we stop and listen, when we do the little things that make us happy, we are at peace. I am so thankful for all those little things that make me happy…one of them is your blog. 🙂
