Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s actual theme is “standalone books that need a sequel,” but let me tell you something — I hate it when standalones get a sequel. It just feels like an unnecessary money grab to me. So I’m putting my own spin on this sequel theme and going with ten series that I still need to finish. I’m honestly the worst at finishing series. Maybe this post will give me the push I need to get through these series!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Last year, I read up through Queen of Shadows before I took a break. I fully intended to finish that series by the end of the year, but I guess that life just got in the way. I have Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn (though they’re currently in boxes), so I really have no excuse not to keep going.
Warcross by Marie Lu
It’s no secret that I didn’t love Warcross, but I still kind of want to know what all the hype is about? Maybe if I read the sequel, I’ll understand it better.
The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss
The Name of the Wind was easily one of my favorites of 2018. I’ve been telling myself that I’m going to read The Wise Man’s Fear soon and then I keep not doing it! I think the fact that it’s 1,000 pages is just something that’s hard for me to get over. I’m going to do it though. Eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Dublin Murder Squad by Tana French
I’ve read (and loved) both Faithful Place and The Secret Place. I actually own the other four books in the series and just haven’t read them yet. I have no excuse!!
Jackaby by William Ritter
I read Jackaby in 2017 and really enjoyed it! I remember adding the rest of the series to my library wishlist, but for some reason, I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m so happy that I’m making this list right now because it reminded me that I need to finish this series!
Famous by Jenny Holiday
I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Famous when I read it a couple of years ago. I’ve been meaning to read Infamous ever since, but it just hasn’t happened yet. Someday.
Fence by C.S. Pacat
To be fair, I’m almost caught up with Fence. (You can see my review of #1-5 and #6-10 if you’d like.) I only have two more issues until I’m caught up, so the completionist side of me really wants to just be done, but I’m kind of losing interest in this series since nothing is really happening.
Winston Brothers by Penny Reid
Sometimes I love Penny Reid’s writing and sometimes I hate it, but I own a bunch of these Winston Brothers books, so I might as well read them.
All for the Game by Nora Sakavic
It’s no secret that I really disliked The Foxhole Court. But so many people adore this series and I’ve heard that it gets better as it goes, so I’m really tempted to see what all the hype is about. I mean, if I’m honest, I’ll probably hate it. But I still want to know for sure!
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
I really enjoyed Truly Devious and was so excited about The Vanishing Stair! Now I just… haven’t read it even though it’s been out for two months. Okay.
Did you do your own Top Ten Tuesday post today? Feel free to leave your link in the comments and I’ll check it out! Have you finished any of these series? Are there any I should prioritize or any I should take off my list? Let’s talk in the comments!

I’m not a series reader at all. I think the only series that grabbed me was Fifty Shades. I do feel like I’m missing out though!! What would you recommend? Xxx

If you’re into romance, I’d highly recommend Krista & Becca Ritchie’s Addicted, Calloway Sisters, and Aerial Ethereal series. I also really, really loved The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater.

I need to start the Throne of Glass series!

It’s so entertaining! I don’t even know why I haven’t finished it! I hope you like it! 🙂

I am fond of a stand-alone too- there’s nothing wrong with perfection within the pages sometimes you don’t need to know what happens next.
I twisted my TTT to books I’m glad there is a sequel to instead.

That’s a great twist on the topic too!

Oh, I feel the same about Warcross! I didn’t really like it, but I’ve heard so many people loving it and Wildcard that I wonder if I should just read the sequel so I know how it ends and can say I finished it. I think some people have said that Wildcard is better?

I’ve heard that about Wildcard too!

Oh man… I am SO bad at finishing series. I’m trying to stick to standalone books these days, to feel like less of a failure 😅 there are just too many great stories out there! I have trouble staying in a world for more than 2 or 3 books.

It seems to me that I need to marathon a series if I’m going to finish it. If I take a break, I just never go back to it. Sticking to standalones sounds like a great idea to me!

I’m reading The Vanishing Stair now and it’s sooo good. It picks up right where Truly Devious left off and I feel like I’ve reunited with old friends.

I’m so happy to hear that! I’m hoping to read it soon! 🙂

I also share your sentiments about standalones with sequels, and did a different topic this week. Also, I also haven’t read Vanishing Stair till now too. And Kingkiller has been on my tbr for so long. Really gotta start the series.

Yes! The Name of the Wind is so good! I don’t even know why I haven’t picked up The Wise Man’s Fear yet, other than it’s just so long and that intimidates me.

Oh my I keep forgetting that I actually want to read THRONE OF GLASS BY SARAH J. MAAS…. for some reason it keeps slipping from my mind, when I finally have some down time lol. Maybe one day I’ll finally get to it 😛 Oh and yes, I did my own TTT as well, with the weekly theme. You can check it out here https://bibianesebookblog.com/2019/03/12/top-ten-tuesday-standalone-books-that-need-a-sequel/ 😀

Ahahah! No I’m half way through Tower of Dawn. 😂

I’m with you on the Throne of Glass series. I finished them all up through Empire of Storms and I really want to finish them, but I keep bumping them down on my list. At this point it’s been so long that I’m afraid I’m going to have to re-read the whole series or I’ll be lost. Also, the Kingkiller Chronicles are GREAT books. But it’s frustrating because there is supposed to be a third, Rothfuss just hasn’t written it yet. Drives me nuts.

Yes, I really hope I remember where I left off with the Throne of Glass series! And I think that’s another reason that The Wise Man’s Fear isn’t at the top of my list. Maybe I’ll finally read it whenever we get a release date for the third book.

Got The Name of the Wind on Audible last month and need to start it! I always choose massive books for audible so I’m less intimidated haha. And I hope you enjoy finishing ToG!

I still need to finish the Kingkiller Chronicles too! Well, catch up with it, I guess. I read The Name of the Wind years ago, and think I waited too long to continue? I can’t remember much of it, so maybe I’ll have to reread it (which is scary because they’re so long). Great list!

I know that feeling! I’m hoping I’ll remember most of what happened once I finally start reading The Wise Man’s Fear.

Great list! The sheer size of A Wise’s Man’s Fear IS a little intimidating, but honestly once you start you’ll fly through it ^^

I believe that! It didn’t take me long to read The Name of the Wind either. Now I just have to tell myself to actually pick it up. 🙂

I also have to read The Trespasser but so little time! This series is very good. I would say don’t bother with Wildcard, not worth it if you didn’t click with Warcross.

I’m actually really happy to hear you say that about Wildcard! I’ll spend my time on other books then. 🙂

I really want to love Marie Lu’s books because I adored the Legend trilogy but all the recent ones unfortunately missed the mark for me. And both books are really similar so I really think you can safely skip Wildcard 🙂

I still need to read her Legend trilogy since I’ve heard such good things about it! And thanks for letting me know about Wildcard! 🙂

I just heard today that apparently there will be a 4th book in the Legend series! Hope it’s good, fingers crossed. If you find time to read the series I hope you enjoy it!

I loved truly devious too (I’m actually gonna wait to read vanishing stair though, cos I don’t want such a long wait between it and the last one) Awesome post!

You need to finish the ToG series, it’s so good! I need to start the Truly Devious series and Warcross too! I’ve started Fence but the third volume isn’t out for us yet. I did just read volume two this month though!

I actually just unpacked the rest of the ToG series, so hopefully I’ll be able to read it soon! And I hope you like Truly Devious and Warcross!

This post reminded me of all the series I’ve started but haven’t finished. I don’t like it 😂 I’m terrible at continuing series. I’m much more of a stand-alone lover, even though I enjoy the connection with characters that series bring…One day I’ll continue all the series I started 😂

I much prefer standalones too! I read far more standalones than series. (Probably because I’m so bad about finishing series!)
