Tag: The Book Addiction Tag

I was tagged by Jamsu to do the Book Addiction Tag! Thank you! ❤ We all know I’m addicted to books, so here we go…

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

I’m in a bit of a slump right now, so I could go a few days without picking up a book. Normally, though, I get the urge to read pretty much constantly.

How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

This might be kind of surprising, but I don’t usually bring a book with me if I’m going somewhere normal, like work or shopping or whatever. I’ll bring a book if I know I have to wait somewhere, like the airport, train station, or doctor’s office. I don’t usually take my Kindle anywhere because I don’t want to lose it.

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I used to keep every book, but now I’m happy to pass them along. Storage is limited and my TBR is endless.

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

If I let myself take my time, I could easily spend a couple hours in a bookstore. If I know what I’m there for, I try to just get in and out before I find a bunch of other books I want to buy.

How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

It really varies. Recently, I’d say maybe a half hour a day? It’s been a while since I was so into a book that I couldn’t put it down. When that happens, I can easily read for a good two or three hours straight. And if it happens on the weekend, I can spend a whole day reading and not even really notice it.

Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

This might be kind of surprising, but in the hierarchy of things that need to be done in my day, getting out of bed, going to work, feeding myself, taking care of my cat, making sure bills are paid, talking to my boyfriend, checking in with my best friend, and keeping my apartment in a reasonable state of cleanliness are all above “picking up a book.”

How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

I have 514 books on my “own” shelf on Goodreads, but that’s not the most accurate thing, because I often forget to take them off if I give them away or otherwise get rid of them, and I don’t usually mark books as owned until I read them… and I own a lot of books that I haven’t read yet.

Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

Not as often as you might think! I don’t talk about books a ton in my day-to-day life.

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I don’t think anything has changed since my Top Ten Tuesday post about the longest books I’ve read, so that honor still goes to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds i.e searching bookshops, online digging etc?

Not really! I can usually find any book I want to read pretty easily. I’m lucky to have a great library system that gives me access to physical copies, ebooks, and audiobooks, as well as hoopla’s whole library. If I can’t find something at the library, Amazon is almost guaranteed to have it.

A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

I hardly ever DNF, so just take a look in my “one star” tag to see all the books I should have DNFed but didn’t.

What are 3 of your main book goals for 2019?

  • Read at least 100 books
  • Choose books that are outside of my comfort zone with my reading challenges
  • Cut down on my physical TBR by reading as many books that I already own as possible

Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

So, fun fact, I actually don’t believe in incessantly nagging people into reading. I think that’s a way to get someone to hate reading even more than they already do. If someone who doesn’t read a lot wants a recommendation of a book I think they’ll like, I’ll give them some ideas. But I’m not going to go up to every person I meet who doesn’t like books and annoy them half to death.

Describe what books mean to you in five words.

My favorite escape from reality.

I’ve seen this tag floating around a lot, so I’m not going to tag anyone in particular. If you want to do it, please consider yourself tagged and link back to me so I can see your answers! How much do you talk about books in your daily life? What’s the last book you refused to DNF? Let’s talk in the comments!

Love this! Definitely going to do this tag myself 😊 the last book I refused to DNF was actually the last book I finished – Her Mother’s Shadow, it wasn’t terrible just quite predictable!! Thanks for sharing your answers – very interesting read!!

I like chatting about the books I read with people who have read them or are reading them but like you, I don’t do it often. There are maybe 2 people I know that read the same things as I do and sometimes we chat about recommendations.
I actually don’t remember the last book I refused to DNF…haha

    Once again, wonderful post ❤
