Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s theme is books from my favorite genre. I wasn’t entirely sure which genre I wanted to go with, but I really can’t go wrong with YA contemporary. ❤
Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
Emergency Contact is one of my all-time favorite YA contemporaries and I will defend it to the death. I love that Penny is a realistic (and often unlikable) main character and that Sam doesn’t fall into the stereotypical description of a love interest.
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
I feel like, at this point, it would actually be more surprising if I didn’t include Starry Eyes on a list of favorites. The entire world knows that I love this book, and if you haven’t already read it, you should probably read it soon.
Bloom by Kevin Panetta
A graphic novel that I read recently and really, really loved was Bloom. I checked this out from the library on a whim (and only because I really liked the cover) and was just blown away by how happy it made me.
Love Scene, Take Two by Alex Evansley
If you’re looking for an absolutely adorable YA romance, you can’t really go wrong with Love Scene, Take Two. I haven’t shouted about this book in a while, so I feel like I need to remind the world that I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH, OKAY. SO MUCH.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
I took a huge break from reading YA contemporaries when I was an actual young adult, and Fangirl is one of the first ones I read when I started getting back into them. I’ve loved everything I’ve ever read by Rainbow Rowell, but Fangirl was my first and I think it’ll always be my favorite.
Kiss Number 8 by Colleen AF Venable
Another YA contemporary graphic novel that I recently loved was Kiss Number 8! I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up loving this book, from the art to the story to the way sensitive topics were handled… it was just great.
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
I had to take a minute to think about which Morgan Matson book I wanted to include on this list since I’ve loved everything of hers I’ve ever read, but I think The Unexpected Everything has to win.
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Back in the day, I read a lot of books that were really hyped on Tumblr. Sometimes that worked out really well. Other times it didn’t. Simon was one of those books, and I absolutely loved it. I love all of the characters in this book and I also loved the adaptation.
Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
I haven’t really talked about it recently, but Saint Anything was the first Sarah Dessen book I picked up after a several-year hiatus and I fell in love. I think my favorite thing about this book was that the romance was secondary to everything else.
Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
A book that I really, really loved that I don’t talk about nearly enough is Made You Up! I love a good unreliable narrator and I can’t even begin to describe how many emotions this book made me feel.
Did you do your own Top Ten Tuesday post today? Feel free to leave your link in the comments and I’ll check it out! What’s your favorite genre? Have you read any of these books? Let’s talk in the comments!
Great list! Can’t go wrong with a Sarah Dessen and Jenn Bennett book. Love them. I still need to read Emergency Contact, it’s on my TBR list.

I really liked Emergency Contact too! The fact that most of their relationship begins over text was really realistic for today which made me love it even more.
My fave Morgan Matson book would probably have to be Since You’ve Been Gone, but that’s just because I really loved its focus on friendship.
Great post as always Sara! (:
