Top Ten Tuesday: Cover redesigns I’ve loved and hated

Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s theme is cover redesigns I’ve loved/hated, which, like many of the themes recently, was a little difficult for me. To be honest, I don’t usually keep up with cover redesigns unless it happens in the middle of a series that I’m reading. (Even then, I really don’t care that much.) That said, here are some redesigns that I came up with and my thoughts on them!

I haven’t read all of these, but the ones I haven’t read are on my TBR.

Anna and the French Kiss

VERDICT: I prefer the redesigned cover.

The Diviners

VERDICT: I prefer the original cover.

Carry On

VERDICT: I like them both, but I’m leaning slightly toward the redesigned cover.

Hold Still

VERDICT: I absolutely, positively, 100% prefer the redesigned cover.

Hothouse Flower

VERDICT: I actually despise the redesigned cover.

Undead Girl Gang

VERDICT: I prefer the original cover.

VERDICT: I love the redesigned cover.

The Bell Jar

VERDICT: This was the oldest and newest cover that I found and I definitely prefer the newer one.

Shadow and Bone

VERDICT: I prefer the redesigned cover.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle

VERDICT: I love the redesigned cover.

There’s something really kind of awful about the stock photo feel of the covers that have live models isn’t there? Like somebody slapped it all together in a cheap photo-editor or something.

It’s dissapointing as a reader to see that these things are getting approved on a level that we have no control over . . . like who thought this was a good idea? Like, “Yes, let’s put our 10 day free trial of Canva stock pictures to use and redisign all of our covers.”

The enamel pins on the Undead Girl Gang original cover is what drew me to it in the first place! Then reading it was about witches, I was sold. (The story is pretty good, too!)

I agree with all of your verdicts! Shadow and Bone, Hold Still, Vicious and Anna and The French Kiss are all SO much better than the originals!
The Diviners redesign is a travesty though. I don’t know what they were thinking!

I’ve lost count of how many times they’ve redesigned the covers for The Diviners series 😂 Also I’m actually one of the few who prefers the OG Grisha trilogy covers!! 🙊 I think I just prefer the simplicity? Idk 😂
