I’m mixing things up in 2020 by not doing most of my usual reading challenges! I looked through a ton of challenges that seemed like they’d be fun and I even contemplated creating my own challenge, but in the end, this is what I decided to go with.
As usual, I’m going for 100 books in 2020! I think this will be the fifth year that I’ve set this goal for myself.
What’s in a Name is hosted by Andrea @ Carolina Book Nook and it’s pretty simple! You can read a book in any format (print, ebook, audio) at any point in 2020 that fits the following categories:
- an ampersand
- an antonym
- 4 letters or less
- a given/first name
- reference to children
- one of the four natural elements
I’m really excited for this one!
I’ve done the Monthly Motif reading challenge a few times, and I’m excited to do it again in 2020. This is a challenge hosted at girlxoxo that just involves reading at least one book per month that fits the given prompt. 2020’s prompts include:
- winter wonderland
- seeing red
- sub-genre sound off
- classics or currents
- author introduction
- name or number
- around or out of this world
- creature feature
- when text just isn’t enough
- thrills and chills
- dynamic duos
- sugar, spice, everything nice
The Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Hot Listens & Caffeinated Reviewer, and I figured it would be perfect because I listen to a ton of audiobooks at work! I don’t want to stress myself out over this one, so I’m aiming for Marathoner (50+ audiobooks).
Are you doing any reading challenges in 2020? Do we have any of the same goals? Let’s talk in the comments!

Good luck with your challenges!
I’m setting myself a wee monthly challenge mostly to read more variety. I am aiming to read 100 books this year too.

Wow!! You set yourself so many amazing challanges!! Sadly this year, uni is taking over my challenges so I’ve only set myself the goal of 48 books. Hopefully I’ll manage more than that though. Good Luck ❤

It’s HARD to finish any reading challenges when you’re in school! I was lucky to finish one or two books per month outside of required reading when I was in school.
Thank you, and good luck with your goal too! 🙂

I’m going to figure out my goals but I think it will be 120 books in the Goodreads challenge and Marathoner in the Audiobook challenge. I love monthly motif too, it sounds like a lot of fun! The prompts are so cool!

Good luck! Monthly Motif is the only reading challenge I stuck with for 2020. I love both the fun prompts and how broad it is. I don’t have to struggle to find a really specific type of book, but it usually helps me expand my reading horizons at least a little bit. 🙂

You’re setting yourself so many challenges – how do you keep track? I often join a challenge but am awful at actually sticking to the prompts or checking my progress, lol. Good luck achieving them all!

Thank you! I keep track using spreadsheets. I have one sheet with all of the books I’ve read that year and then a different sheet for each reading challenge. Otherwise there’s no way I’d know which prompts I’d completed and which I still had to do!

That is a really good idea! I always lose track because I don’t have a system for keeping on top of all the challenges!

Thanks! If I’m not looking at the prompts all the time, there’s no way I’d finish.

Thanks! Some audiobook highlights have been Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Sadie by Courtney Summers, The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, Sourdough by Robin Sloan, My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey, and really anything by Jenny Lawson. 🙂 If you get the chance to listen to any of those, I hope you love them as much as I did!

These look like so much fun! Reading challenges are so tempting for me but it’s hard to balance with my school schedule, hopefully I can do a full one next year. Good luck on your challenges 🙂

Thank you! I can definitely understand how reading challenges would be difficult with school. Hopefully you’ll get to do one when you’re done!

It’s funny that I’m just now seeing this, because a bit ago I posted about 1 of the few readathons/challenges I’d like to do this year. Good luck with 100 books! I hope you’re able to do it!
As for me, I set my goal at 25 knowing I may or may not surpass that. Nevertheless, my TBR is ever growing, as always. Lol.
