☑️ is this a romance novel or Fight Club??
☑️ no concept of personal safety whatsoever but it’s cool because it’s erotica
The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise
☑️ girl makes an app to make raping boys socially acceptable
☑️ constantly uses sexuality as a plot twist
☑️ stereotypes & makes fun of people from other cultures
Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds
☑️ a romantic relationship between a high school student and a college student
☑️ medical professional is hiding a secret cure for sickle cell anemia because why share it??
☑️ let’s just throw in a time loop because why not, this book is already a mess
Distrust by T.L. Smith
☑️ literal abuse portrayed as love
☑️ did you know that Brooklyn is full of warring mafias that just… gun people down in broad daylight?
☑️ the main character’s waist starts shaking because she wants the love interest so badly
Axl by Riley Rollins
☑️ everybody’s cheating on everybody
☑️ like… everybody, constantly
☑️ the whole book is just one bad decision after another
Troll by Emma Clark
☑️ let’s see… stalker breaks into her house and rapes her and it’s somehow a romance??
☑️ sex described as “repetitive gouging,” “full impalement,” and “like stray felines in the midst of battle… or kitten-making”
☑️ “Not just a troll. It’s an acronym.” (for what? we’ll never know)
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
☑️ basically The Fault in Our Stars
☑️ Finch is just a cute, smooth-talking mental illness
☑️ the entirety of Violet’s character development is based on her reactions to death
The Dumont Diaries by Alessandra Torre
☑️ lots of dubious consent and one scene in particular that made me want to throw up
☑️ super controlling love interest, and not in a sexy way
☑️ yes, let’s use our heroine’s financial woes against her, that’s hot
