The award was created by Maggie @ Dreaming of Guatemala who stated, “This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”
10 questions from Meghan:
(I just wanted to mention that I was tagged by Meghan in January and it took me forever to do this tag.)
How many books do you want to read this year?
In January, I set a goal of 100, which is my standard yearly goal. That’s still what I have it set at on Goodreads, but my actual goal is closer to 150 now.
What’s one thing you are planning to leave behind in 2019?
I hope I’m leaving behind a lot of unnecessary anxiety. I tend to panic over the stupidest things and that’s something I’m trying to be more aware of and consciously avoid.
What’s something you’d like to do/or gain in 2020?
I’ve said this so many times, but I’d love to step out of my comfort zone to interact more with authors and publishers. I’d like to do more interviews and guest posts rather than just reviews.
It’s nice to be important but it’s important to be nice. What is the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
It’s not one thing, but a whole collection of little things. When I was getting out of a really toxic relationship, my family and friends were really there for me. It was a combination of sending me money, inviting me over for dinner so I didn’t have to be in the apartment we shared, and listening to me vent, and it meant so much to me.
What are your hopes for your blog in the next year?
My main goal for 2020 was to hit 3,000 followers and I just hit it! I’m still trying to figure out an idea for a monthly collaborative blog feature, but with everything going on in the world right now, my creativity juices are running low.
Who or what are you most grateful for in life?
I’m most grateful for my fiance. He’s always there for me and he supports me in everything that I do. He’s just such an amazing person.
Who is your favourite musician/band/singer?
Probably Taylor Swift. I could listen to her all day.
What would you like to be remembered for?
Just being… nice. I don’t want people to look back and remember me being mean to them.
Do you prefer Bookstagram or Book Twitter? Share your social links.
Neither, really, but Twitter if I had to pick. I’m not really artsy enough for Bookstagram. My book Twitter (and only Twitter) is @bblphgst.
Random question: do you have a specific mug for specific beverages? Ex. a mug only for coffee, a mug only for tea, etc.? (I can’t be the only one!)
I don’t! I have a huge mug collection and I just pick whichever suits my mood the best at the time.
10 questions from Laura:
What’s the comfort book that you always reach for when everything gets a bit much?
I don’t really do rereads, so I don’t have one book that I always turn to. When things get to be a bit much, though, I like contemporary romances. I read Tweet Cute a couple weeks ago and it was exactly what I needed.
Which book from your favourite genre would you recommend to someone who has never read anything from that genre before?
My go-to romance recommendation is The Hating Game. I just love the banter in it and I think the humor offsets the sexy stuff really well.
If you had the power to jump into books, which literary world would you escape to?
Anywhere but the one we’re in right now, honestly. I would just like to be living in a world without a pandemic, where I can leave my house to go to a bookstore or restaurant or even just walk around downtown without having to worry.
Which mythical creature do you wish was real?
It’s a pretty cliche answer, but it would be pretty cool if unicorns were real.
Would you rather have the power to fly or the power to breathe underwater?
Definitely the power to fly.
You have the power to stop time for an hour once a day. How do you use it?
Probably to sleep in. I (willingly) start work at 7 am so that I can punch out by 3:30, but it would be awfully nice to get an extra hour of sleep.
Do you usually listen to music while reading? If so, what’s your favourite thing to listen to?
Not usually. I get distracted by my favorite songs and pay more attention to them than the book. If I do listen to music while I’m reading, I’m probably on a plane or some kind of noisy public transit. I’ll usually listen to instrumental music, like the Vitamin String Quartet tributes to some of my favorite artists.
What’s your favourite reading snack?
I don’t usually snack while I’m reading, but my favorite snacks are either salty (chips, pretzels) or sour (I love Sour Patch Kids).
What skill do you wish you could master without trying?
Singing. I have never been a good singer. I was traumatized when my elementary school music teacher told me I couldn’t sing in a school program and I have been really shy about singing in public ever since then.
Gush time! In three sentences or less, gush about your favourite book.
I think I already answered this one when I recommended a book from my favorite genre!
I’m not going to nominate anyone, but feel free to answer one or both sets of questions! What’s the nicest things someone’s ever done for you? What skill do you wish you could master without trying? Let’s talk in the comments!
