Instead of reading, I have been sewing up a storm. I’m selling masks (custom & premade) and handmade scrunchies over on Etsy. I’m putting up new listings all the time, so please keep checking back!
You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t been around much recently. I made it a goal to respond to all my comments, but WordPress isn’t letting me! It just tells me that I don’t have permission! I also realized that I’ve been stressing myself out trying to have a post every day, and my main advice to new bloggers is always to make sure you’re enjoying yourself and not getting burned out. So I’m taking a semi-hiatus! It’s a little weird but I am much less stressed!
Song of the week:
How was your week? What’s the best thing you read or listened to? Anything interesting happening in your life? Let’s talk in the comments!
Happy Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s theme is questions I would ask my favorite authors. I never know what to say to anyone that I don’t know well, so I’m going to do my best with this topic! For reference, I’m imagining asking Jenn Bennett these questions.
How do you pull an entire story out of your head?
Where do you get the inspiration for your characters?
How do you make everyone so likable?
How do you manage to write books that both teens and adults can relate to?
Where do you get the inspiration for your settings? They’re always so different!
Do you prefer to write what you know or situations you’d probably never find yourself in?
Who has been your favorite character to write?
What’s the hardest part of writing for you?
Do you listen to music while you write? If so, who are some of your favorite artists?
…Will you be my best friend?
Did you do your own Top Ten Tuesday post today? Feel free to leave your link in the comments and I’ll check it out! What questions would you ask your favorite author? Let’s talk in the comments!
I’m putting it out there in the universe that my goal for this week is to get caught up on comments! I have hardly been online at all for maybe the last month or so. It’s been really nice but I feel like I’ve been seriously neglecting my blog!

I still have stitches. 😦
Is anyone else having trouble with WordPress? It keeps telling me I’m not allowed to post on my own blog!

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life.
When she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.
Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.
Last year, I read Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I loved it, but Evelyn Hugo had gotten so much hype that I was too scared to read it. Well, enter the Great Reading Slump of 2020 and I figured I didn’t have much to lose. Nothing was holding my interest anyway, so if I hated it, that would obviously be why.
Well, let me just say… this held my interest. Evelyn was an absolutely fascinating character, and I found her life story so interesting. I liked that she never claimed to be a good person and never tried to excuse the bad things she’d done. She fully owned every decision and every mistake and I aspire to someday be that self-assured.
As with Daisy Jones, Evelyn Hugo is told mostly through a series of interviews. I love this style of storytelling and Reid is so good at it. This book spanned several decades (and seven husbands) and I felt like I was right there with Evelyn through all of it.
And that twist at the end? I did not see that coming.
I’m not sure which of Reid’s other books I should read next, but I’m definitely not stopping here.
Have you read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo? Is it on your TBR? Let’s talk in the comments!

11 QUESTIONS FROM EMER:
What book can you not shut up talking about?
Probably The Hating Game! I feel like I recommend it incessantly. I think I used it in a tag earlier this week, too…
What book do you own the most copies of?
Factoring in my fiance’s books, I think The Name of the Wind. Last I checked, we owned a combined three copies.
Who are some authors that you would love to go to lunch with?
Definitely Jenn Bennett! I just feel like she’d be easy to talk to.
How do you organise your books/bookshelves?
I have one bookcase that’s organized pretty nicely by color. I have another one that’s (mostly) black and white books. Then I have one in my bedroom that’s just a bunch of books that didn’t really fit anywhere, plus everything I’ve bought since the last time I organized.
What book means the most to you on a personal level?
Possibly Emergency Contact, because I can relate so much to Penny and Sam’s relationship.
What is your current favourite song?
That’s so hard! I keep going back to illicit affairs, though. That “don’t call me kid, don’t call me baby” part gets me every time.
Pepsi or Coke?
Neither! I’m not a fan of cola. Give me fizzy water any day.
What fictional characters would you like to go on holiday with?
Hmm… Lucy from The Hating Game seems like she’d be fun.
What is your least favourite read of 2020 so far?
The Bromance Book Club. I know everyone loves it, but Gavin’s pushiness and manipulation brought back some really unpleasant memories of my last relationship.
If you want to answer these questions, please feel free! I’d love to see your responses. What’s your favorite song right now? What’s the worst book you’ve read so far this year? Let’s talk in the comments!
