Hello! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Sara and I’m a book blogger. During the day, I work for an insurance company. Outside of reading, I love spoiling my cats, going on excursions with my husband, and trying out new recipes. If you’re into personality typing, I’m a turbulent ISFJ, which explains an awful lot.
Some fast facts:
- I started this blog in 2013 over on Tumblr.
- I’ve reviewed 800+ books.
- You can find my review policy here.
- My favorite genre is contemporary romance, particularly young adult and new adult.
- My two favorite tropes are opposites: friends-to-lovers and enemies-to-lovers.
- If defined literally, bibliophagist means “one who devours books.”
About the reviews:
Reviews are based on a five-point scale. I very, very rarely rate one or five stars.
★☆☆☆☆: Struggled to finish.
★★☆☆☆: Indifferent, leaning more toward disliking.
★★★☆☆: Indifferent, leaning more toward liking.
★★★★☆: Very good, minor problems that I was able to ignore.
★★★★★: Amazing, would not change a thing.
I give every book a fair shot, but that does not mean that I’ll give every book a high rating. Some things that will make me lower my rating include:
☆ angst for angst’s sake
☆ grammatical mistakes (though I am more lenient with ARCs)
☆ misogyny by the author (not a character)
☆ entirely unrealistic situations
☆ plot holes, continuity errors, inconsistency
☆ flat-out plagiarism (automatic 1-star rating)
It is extremely rare for me to abandon a book once I’ve started. More often, I’ll set the book aside until I’m in a better mood for it. However, if I feel that it’s poorly written, and neither the plot or the characters are keeping me interested, I’ll more than likely abandon it.
About the books.
If I had to classify this blog, I’d say that I primarily review romance and nonfiction, with the recent addition of some children’s books. However, that’s not all I read! I enjoy a wide variety of genres, from fantasy to mysteries to graphic novels. I’m always happy to expand my reading horizons by trying out a new author, genre, or format. There’s very little that I won’t at least give a fair shot.
Although I have highlighted a number of well-known authors on the blog, beginning in early 2017, I decided to make a conscious effort to highlight more debut authors. I actively seek out debut authors for reviews, blog tours, and spotlight posts. If you are a debut author interested in being featured on my blog, please feel free to reach out!
I am an active member of Netgalley and work with a number of PR companies. I also have an Edelweiss account that I primarily use to track new releases. You can also find me on BookSirens. The best way to contact me is via email at bibliophagistreviews (at) gmail (dot) com.
About The Bibliophagist.
I come from a family of readers, spend more time with books than people, and was once, at the age of five years, paraded around my elementary school and made to read Mr. Popper’s Penguins to classrooms of much older students. Since then, I don’t think I’ve stopped reading.
In college, I majored in Spanish and Linguistics. It was fun at the time, but I haven’t used a bit of it since I graduated. I’ve moved all over the country over the last few years and I’m currently back in my homeland (the Midwest).
Outside of work, I love getting together with my friends and playing with their children. I’m a huge music lover and will happily go to any concert I can get tickets for, from huge stadium shows to tiny local bands. I also enjoy cooking, baking, and sewing, and I’m probably a crazy cat lady.
Feel free to comment on any of my posts or shoot me an email to say hi!
