Tag: Soul-Ripping Romance

A few weeks ago, Siobhan tagged me in the Soul-Ripping Romance Tag! (Thank you!) This is one that I hadn’t seen around before and I’m really excited to do it!

Rules:

  • Thank the person who tagged you and create a pingback to the original author – Nel at Reactionary Tales.
  • Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heartstrings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three.
  • Nominate 5 (or more) people to share their emotional traumas
  • (Note: Try not to spoil the story for your readers in case they would like to check out these romances on their own)

Nevernight: Mia & Tric

I am not saying anything about anything when it comes to these two, but their story got me. It really did.

The Raven Cycle: Adam & Ronan

Again, not saying anything about anything, but this was some of the best relationship development.

The Hating Game: Josh & Lucy

Well, the whole world knows that Josh and Lucy are some of my favorites. Their banter! The pining!

Alex, Approximately: Bailey & “Alex”

NO SPOILERS HERE, but if you’re into online friendships and enemies-to-lovers, you’ll probably love this book.

Love and Other Words: Elliot & Macy

This is one of the only books in recent(ish) memory to make me cry! This book includes a huge misunderstanding, a ton of heartbreak, a lot of history, and a second chance romance that blew me away.

I’m not sure who has or hasn’t done this one, so please feel free to steal it if you’d like! Have you read any of these books? Which romances have pulled at your heartstrings? Let’s talk in the comments!

Tag: Summer Sweatalong Book Tag

Thank you to Jenna @ Bookmark Your Thoughts for tagging me in this one! It’s been a good two and a half months or so, but I finally did it! (Sorry it took so long.) At least it’s still summer. 🙂

The Rules

  1. Link back to the original creator of the book tag (thebookwormdreamer).
  2. Start off with telling us your favourite season and why it is/isn’t summer!
  3. Tag five friends to take part.
  4. Enjoy!

My favorite season: Spring

I have no opposition to summer. I think it’s great to be able to do a ton of stuff outside and I feel like the summer vibe is usually more relaxed than the rest of the year, but the heat. I like spring because it’s when everything finally thaws from winter, the snow melts, everything starts blooming, and I can open my windows and let a nice breeze in my apartment.

Don’t Stop!
a book you couldn’t stop reading

Hyperbole and a Half is a 371-page book that I read in one sitting.

You’re a Cheetah
a book you read in just one day

I think most graphic novels I’ve read would fit this prompt, so I’ll just go with one I recently finished: I love this part by Tillie Walden. Heartbreaking, but so good.

Couldn’t Let Go
a book you reread straight away

Literally none, sorry. I rarely reread, and never right away.

Calm It Down!
a book that got your heart racing

Definitely Saga. From the beginning, I had to know what would happen next.

Second Best
a sequel that you read faster than the first

Don’t get me wrong, I had no opposition to Amour Amour, but Infini was really something else. I connected with this book immediately and could hardly put it down.

Books On Fire!
a series you read straight through

I haven’t done this recently, but one series I can remember marathoning was The Hunger Games. I read it over spring break in college and barely stopped to sleep.

Midnight Madness
a book that kept you up late

My classic answer for this kind of prompt is Me Before You, which kept me up until about 2am when I had to be to work the next morning by 7:30.

I’m tagging:

Lori 🌴 Jamsu 🍹Rae 🐚 Consu 🌻Cait

Please feel free to do this tag even if I didn’t specifically tag you! (And, of course, no pressure if I did tag you and you already did it or just aren’t interested.) Which book got your heart racing? What series did you read straight through? Let’s talk in the comments!

Tag: Anything But Books

I was tagged by Consu to do the Anything But Books tag! I don’t get a lot of chances to talk about things I love other than reading on my blog anymore, so this sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun!

Name A Cartoon Character That You Love

Tina from Bob’s Burgers.

What Is Your Favourite Song Right Now

Not sure how I’m supposed to choose one single favorite song, but I’m feeling a resurgence of my love for Strange Desire by Bleachers, and especially the song “Wake Me.”

What Could You Do For Hours
(That Isn’t Reading)

Play with cats, pet cats, talk about cats… basically anything dealing with cats.

What Is Something You Love To Do That Your Followers Would Be Surprised By

I don’t know if there’s really anything that my followers would be surprised to hear that I enjoy, but maybe going to comic book stores? This is a new thing for me and I’ve found that I really enjoy it!

What Is Your Favourite Unnecessarily Specific Thing to Learn About

I love reading about linguistics, especially modern linguistics. I love hearing about how language is evolving and how things like emojis and acronyms find their way into our everyday lives. Modern linguistic trends are really interesting to me, too, like vocal fry (the creaky voice that’s stereotypically used by bored teenage girls at the end of a sentence).

What Is Something Unusual You Know How to Do

People that don’t work in medical coding might think it’s unusual that I have pretty much every dermatology-specific procedure code memorized, along with what documentation is necessary to bill for it.

Name Something You’ve Made in The Last Year (And Show Us If You Can)

I have made a lot of things in the last year, but one that I was happiest with is these chocolate-dipped cheesecake bars that my boyfriend and I made back in February. (Also pictured are chocolate chip cookie lava cakes.)

What Is Your Most Recent Personal Project

Hmm, probably decorating my apartment. I’ll share pictures once it’s done (provided it looks how I’m imagining) but it’s going to be based around one of my favorite series.

Tell Us Something You Think About Often (Maybe While Staring Out of Windows)

Without being too dramatic… the indeterminate future where I’m working at a job I actually enjoy and living in New York.

Give Us Something That’s Your Favourite, But Make It Something Oddly Specific

Sunday excursions with my boyfriend. We go out for lunch, usually go in a few shops downtown, look around the library for a while, sometimes get ice cream, and really just go wherever and do whatever we feel like. It’s such a nice and relaxing way to spend a Sunday while still having a lot of fun.

Say The First Thing That Pops Into Your Head

I’m tired.

I’m not tagging anyone specifically to do this, but please link back to me if you do your own post! What’s your favorite oddly specific thing? What’s your favorite song right now? Let’s talk in the comments!

Tag: Who Am I Book Tag

Appromxately a month or so ago, Siobhan tagged me for this Who Am I? Book Tag! Sorry it took me so long to get to this one!

If you were a book genre, what would it be?

I’d probably be a YA contemporary, even though I’m in my late 20s now. I feel like my life, especially recently, is very much like the contemporary romances that I love. Just last weekend, I had a romantic Ferris wheel ride on Friday and then went to dinner and a Broadway play on Saturday.

What villain from a book do you identify with the most?

Holland from V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic trilogy!

What protagonist are you most similar to?

Probably Bailey from Alex, Approximately. Bailey is a dodger who will go to any extreme to avoid confrontation or an awkward situation, and wow, same. I also live in a little bubble where I only talk to the same few people and have met my favorite person through the internet.

Which book did you connect with in the past that you no longer do?

I was really into the Twilight series when I was in high school (who wasn’t, really) and I felt like I really related to the characters. Now, looking back, I would take so many issues with that series if I re-read it.

What recent book read would you love to be a character in?

Maybe Lost at Sea? It’s not the happiest book, but I would not mind having the friend group from this book.

How do your reading habits show off in your personality?

Like Siobhan (and Kay before her), I pretty rarely DNF and am also pretty stubborn about things. I also love reading romances and that probably shows in the fact that I love spending time with my boyfriend.

What book taught you something about yourself?

It took a while to realize it, but looking back, The Lover’s Dictionary really helped me realize a lot of things about myself and the situation I was in at the time I read it.

I’m not going to tag anybody, but please feel free to do this tag (and link back to me so I can see your answers!) if it looks like fun to you! Which protagonist are you most similar to? If your life were a genre, what would it be? Let’s talk in the comments!

Ultimate 2019 TBR: Mid-year check in!

It’s been six months since I shared my Ultimate 2019 TBR (100 books), so it’s time to do the first check-in. I don’t think I’ve done the best job at sticking to this TBR, but I didn’t do quite as terribly as I thought I would.

ALREADY OWNED: READ 7/60 (yikes)

Well, I do openly admit that I’m pretty bad about reading things that I actually own. I hated a lot of the seven books that I read, but I did really enjoy The Rest of Us Just Live Here and Practical Magic.

UPCOMING RELEASES: READ 3/20

I have a lot to say about this section! Let’s see…

  • I’ve removed We Contain Multitudes from my TBR since it just doesn’t sound like the kind of book I’d like
  • I have an ARC of The Last Hope that I’ll be reading soon
  • I’ve preordered both Rainbow Rowell books
  • I got On the Come Up as a Book of the Month, so hopefully I’ll get around to it soon enough
  • I’m currently reading The Music of What Happens, so I figure it counts as a book read, even though I haven’t finished it yet

BOOKS TO GET FROM THE LIBRARY: READ 6/40

The goal of this section was to check books out from the library, but it turns out that I’ve since bought more than one of these…

TOTAL: READ 16/100 (so far!)

I honestly thought that I would have read about three of the books from this list, so I’m not too disappointed to find out that I’m at least in the double digits. I checked out a few of these books from the library this week, so hopefully I’ll be crossing off a few more of these soon!

Did you make a TBR list for the year? If so, how are you doing? Have you read any of these books? Let’s talk in the comments!
