Rules of the award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate (at least) 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

11 questions from Roo:

What is your favourite book of the year so far?

This is the hardest question, but I think I have to go with Bloom!

What is your most anticipated book of this year?

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff!!!! I cannot wait!!!!

Have you found a TV/movie adaption of a book you have really enjoyed? If not, are there any you are looking forward to?

I really enjoyed the adaptation of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I also really liked Love, Simon!

Where is your favourite bookshop? And what is it called?

I recently went to A Room of One’s Own in Madison, WI and really liked it. I hadn’t been there since college since now I live in New Jersey, but it was 10,000 times better than I remembered.

Would any of the characters in the book you are currently reading win The Hunger Games?

I just finished Through the Woods by Emily Carroll and I think that yes, many of the characters could win.

Do you have multiple copies of a book? If not, are there any editions you currently have your eye on?

I don’t think that there are any books I have multiple copies of. I’m trying to be pretty good about either donating or selling any books that I don’t need to keep.

What is your favourite season?

I love spring!

What is one of your dream vacation spots?

I’d love to go to Spain or Portugal! I majored in Spanish in college and took a semester of intensive Portuguese for fun.

Describe your perfect Sunday

I love my Sundays recently! I stay home and do laundry while my boyfriend goes out and does the grocery shopping. After he gets back, we go out for lunch and hang out downtown for a bit and then go to the library. It’s such a fun and relaxing way to spend a day. 🙂

Are you an aspiring writer? Have you currently got a WIP? Or any ideas for one?

I am not! I’m happy reading stories and not creating them. 🙂

What it your most treasured possession?

Excluding my cat (who isn’t really a possession), probably a necklace my boyfriend gave me for my birthday. ❤

11 questions from Eline:

A place you would want to travel to next

I think the next place I’m going is Hershey, Pennsylvania!

Which authors are on your auto-buy list?

  • Becky Albertalli
  • Jenn Bennett
  • V.E. Schwab
  • probably others that I can’t think of right now!

What could a synopsis include that would immediately make you want to read a book?

FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS!

A stunning book cover

I love Emma Mills’ book covers! I haven’t read this one yet. 🙂

At what point do you DNF books? Is it a certain percentage through it?

Well, first of all, I rarely DNF anything. But if I do, I try to get up to page 100 before giving up. That doesn’t always happen though, because sometimes I just can’t handle the book.

Would you prefer to live in a big or small city?

Definitely a big city. I would love to move to NYC!

Favourite mythological creature?

🦄

One of your goals for 2019

Survive my job…

How many languages do you know and what would you like to learn next?

Other than English, I can understand most written and spoken Spanish (I’m not as great at speaking it myself) and I could probably get by with Portuguese. I’m not really sure which language I’d like to learn next. I always thought that Icelandic would be fun, but it’s not a language that I’d use on a daily basis.

A book quote you like

“You can be with the same person for a long time and have it be fine and meet someone else who instantly makes you see that it’s broken,” she said.

EMERGENCY CONTACT BY MARY H.K. CHOI

Recommend me some book blogs you follow!

11 questions from Rachael:

What’s your favorite lesser known book or series and why?

I hardly ever see people talking about Starry Eyes, even though it’s one of my favorite books that I’ve ever read!

Describe the best food you’ve ever read about in a book.

I don’t tend to really remember the food I read about, but I do remember the Korean-Brazilian fusion food truck from The Way You Make Me Feel! I would love to eat some of that.

Would you rather be a character in a whimsical magical tale or an epic space opera?

I’d take whimsy and magic over battles any day.

If you could change something about your favorite book, what would you change?

I pretty much have undying love for Starry Eyes, but I suppose I could get rid of the miscommunication in it? That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. It didn’t bother me too much in that book, though, since it seemed really natural.

Why did you start blogging?

Because I moved to New Jersey and didn’t know anybody here! I needed someone to talk to about books!

What is your most controversial bookish opinion?

I did a Top Ten Tuesday post about this not too long ago, but my most controversial opinion is probably that I can’t support Cassandra Clare.

Personal library or public library?

Both! I own a ton of books, but I also make weekly trips to my public library.

What is your favorite thing about yourself?

Probably the fact that I’m very calm in a crisis and can pretty much get anything done that needs to be done.

What book character would you name a pet after? (and what kind of animal is the pet?)

Honestly, I don’t think that I would name a pet after any characters! I’ll save the literary names for my future children. 🙂

Where would you go if you could go anywhere within driving distance (like 5 hours max) right now?

Right now, I’m very tired and don’t really want to go anywhere… but in general? Probably New York City. I could really go for some ice cream at Ample Hills.

Who is your book boyfriend (or girlfriend)?

Joshua Templeman from The Hating Game, I guess. I already have the perfect boyfriend. Fictional characters can’t even compare.

11 questions from Rae:

What’s your favorite genre?

Right now I’m very much into graphic novels. They don’t take a ton of brainpower or effort to read and that’s perfect after a long, stressful day.

Where do you like to read?

Mostly I read on my couch or on my bed.

What do you do when you’re not reading?

I like to spend time with my boyfriend, go to New York, cook and bake, and obsessively plan out every detail of my life.

Who is your favorite author?

Jenn Bennett!

When is your favorite time to read?

Right before bed. It’s a really easy way for me to calm down and get relaxed enough to sleep.

How do you choose what books to read next?

I try to read ARCs first, but after that, it’s really whatever I feel like. Sometimes I’ll choose a book based on a reading challenge prompt, but I’m finding that I read more when I don’t set a strict plan for myself.

What do you look for in a book?

I don’t think that I really ask for a lot in books. I want it to be well-written with believable characters who do things that make sense for the situation. I always love a good friends-to-lovers storyline and I’m a sucker for anything with a lot of pining, but I don’t think I’m really that picky.

How do you feel about book to movie adaptations?

I don’t usually watch them, but that’s mostly because I don’t usually watch most things. I have so much time to read because I don’t really watch TV or go to many movies.

Do you prefer a stand-alone or a series?

I really prefer standalones. I have no opposition to series, really, but I don’t always have the time or energy to dedicate to reading a really long series.

Have you ever joined a book club?

I have not!

What are your tips to other bloggers?

My biggest tip is to make sure you’re posting the kind of content that makes you happy! Don’t force yourself to write a ton of reviews if you don’t want to and don’t feel obligated to come up with discussion topic after discussion topic if that’s not something you’re comfortable with. Your blog is yours and it’s there to make you happy. If it’s stressing you out, then something has to change. ❤

If you want to answer these questions, please feel free! I’d love to see your responses. ❤ What’s your dream vacation spot? Do you prefer to buy or borrow books? Let’s talk in the comments!

Tag: Sunshine Blogger Award (Take 11)

I was recently nominated by Trisha and Alex for The Sunshine Blogger Award. Thank you so much! ❤

If you’re interested, you can see the previous takes of this award here:
1 • 2 • 3 • 4 • 5 • 6 • 7 • 8 • 910

Rules of the award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate (at least) 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

11 questions from Trisha:

If you could live in any sitcom, which would it be?

I think I’d live in New Girl. Can you even imagine how much fun it would be? I’d love to have Jess as my BFF. Hanging out with Nick, Schmidt, Coach, and Winston wouldn’t be too bad, either. (And Ferguson!!)

If money were no object, where would you be living?

I’d be living in a spectacularly awesome apartment in Brooklyn!

If you could INSTANTLY become an expert in anything, what would it be?

Can I say something like… not letting things get to me? I’m usually pretty good at that, but I’ve had trouble letting little things go recently. I was mad for longer than I’d like to admit last Friday because a man was super rude to me at work.

Which one is the first book you ever bought?

I’m not really sure! Probably something by Tamora Pierce, I’d guess. I was always at the bookstore with my mom when I was little.

Let’s be honest, which is that series of books that you know you will not finish?

Most of them! I’m very bad about finishing series. It’s more rare for me to finish a series than it is for me to stop it.

If the place you lived in could only experience ONE season forever, what season would you choose?

Summer. My favorite season is actually spring, but with everything blooming comes a lot of pollen, and it just leads to me sneezing over and over and over and over and over again for weeks. With summer, I get nice weather without all that nonsense.

How many unread books do you own?

Overall, I’m not sure, but I counted 75 in my bedroom a couple days ago.

Which authors are on your auto-buy list?

Jenn Bennett, Krista & Becca Ritchie, and R.S. Grey. There are a ton of authors that I want to read everything from, but not a ton of authors that I’ll actually purchase each time.

What’s your favourite bookish map?

Another question that I’m not sure on! I don’t mind fantasy, but it’s not really my favorite genre. I can’t think of any bookish maps that I was really into off the top of my head.

Which fictional character do you think best represents you?

Maybe Belle from In Bed With the Beast. It’s basically a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, so Belle is a nerdy bookworm who’s lived a pretty sheltered life, and I relate a lot.

11 questions from Alex:

Which author, living or dead, would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

Jenn Bennett!

What is the most popular book or series that you have no intention of reading?

Probably A Song of Ice and Fire? I just have no desire whatsoever to read that series.

Have you ever caused irreparable damage to a book?

Yes, I have dropped books in the bath. 😥 I mean, I guess they dried out, but they look weird.

How do you organise your bookshelves?

My shelves aren’t really organized in any real way. They were sort of a rainbow, but then I decided that I didn’t want to separate series, and it turned out that at least half my books have black spines, so it’s just kind of a jumble right now.

How many unread books do you own?

I just counted a couple days ago and I believe it’s 75!

What is your most anticipated release of 2019?

Darkdawn!

What is one backlist book you *must* read this year?

Oh, I did a whole post about this in January. I’m not doing too great on reading my backlist books, but I am trying. I’m going to say Vengeful because I was so excited to pre-order it and now it’s just been sitting on my shelf forever.

What was your favourite childhood book?

I had many favorites, but the one that’s best stood the test of time is Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

How do you get yourself out of a reading slump?

A minor reading slump can be fixed by picking up some audiobooks or graphic novels. I was in a pretty major reading slump from the end of February until the beginning of April, though, and nothing really pulled me out of it until I just one day got over it.

Which of your blog posts are you most proud of?

I don’t do discussion posts really often, but I usually end up feeling pretty proud of myself when I do. Here are some discussion posts I’ve really enjoyed writing:

What is your favourite book cover?

I always have the same answer for this question, which I guess makes sense since it’s my favorite…

I’ve tagged a ton of people recently, so I’m going to take a little break for now. If you want to answer these questions, though, please feel free! I’d love to see your responses. ❤ If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Which backlist book are you most excited to read this year? Let’s talk in the comments!

Tag: Sunshine Blogger Award (Take 10)

It’s been a while since I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award, so I was pretty happy when a notification popped up that AK @ Everything Is Bad For You nominated me! Thank you so much for the nomination!

If you’re interested, you can see the previous takes of this award here:
1 • 2 • 3 • 4 • 5 • 6 • 7 • 8 • 9

Rules of the award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate (at least) 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

11 questions from AK:

1) What’s your favorite or most-used medium for entertainment?

Unsurprisingly, given that this is a book blog, my most-used form of entertainment is books! I really rarely delve into other mediums, even television and movies.

2) What character in a work of fiction would you inhabit and why?  (Assuming you’re experiencing the entire storyline of the game/novel/film/whatever as this character.)

I would love to be Lucy Hutton from The Hating Game. Lucy has my dream job (she works in publishing!) and she gets to sit across from and talk to/banter with Joshua Templeman all day. ❤

3) What work would you wipe all memories of from your brain if you could so that you could experience it all over again?

I don’t think I would! I have this fear that if I read one of my favorites again for the first time, I wouldn’t like it as much. That’s one of the reasons I don’t do rereads. I just want to keep that warm and fuzzy feeling intact.

4) What’s the most annoying trend occurring in your favorite medium today?

Let’s see… probably works that could be one long book being broken up into several smaller books.

5) What’s the most promising trend occurring in your favorite medium today?

I think it’s great that books are starting to include more diversity in very natural ways.

6) How much or how little romance do you like in your games/films/novels/etc.?

I love a ton of romance. Give me a sickening amount of it. I love love.

7) If you had to be the ruler of one country in any work of fiction, which one would you pick?

Ooh, that’s a hard one. Usually books that discuss their governments have, you know, pretty bad governments. I also have absolutely zero desire to go into politics. I think I’ll have to pass on this question. I’d be a terrible ruler.

8) Do you think virtual reality will improve anytime in the near future to the extent that it’s actually worth using?  Or are we already at that point?

Oh dear, I don’t really know anything about virtual reality!

9) I’ve heard people say that the novel is a dying form of art and that changes in attention span length and the constant multitasking our generation is involved in will make them obsolete.  If you have an opinion on that matter, do you agree or disagree?

I have a very strong opinion on this matter, and it’s that the novel is absolutely not dying. To the average non-reader, it might seem like people don’t read anymore, but look at the sheer amount of book bloggers that exist! And the amount of people with Goodreads accounts! I think it can definitely be hard to focus on reading, but that doesn’t mean that the novel is dying. It just means that we’re living in a different world than we were fifty (or even twenty) years ago.

10) Are you optimistic about the future of the human race?

I really try to be, but I don’t know. Sometimes things happen that just leave me sad.

11) Cake or pie?  (There’s only one right answer.)

Ugh, I love both so much. I was tempted to say pie because I really love a good apple or cherry or blueberry or lemon curd pie, but then I remembered a couple cakes I’ve had recently. I think I have to go with cake. Hopefully that’s the right answer.

Since this is my tenth time doing this award, I’m not going to nominate anyone, but please feel free to consider yourself nominated and answer AK’s questions! Do you prefer cake or pie? Which fictional world do you want to live in? Let’s talk in the comments!

Can you tell that I’m trying to work my way through my backlog of tags? I love doing them, but between the holidays and work and traveling, I got pretty far behind. Today I’m doing another round of the Sunshine Blogger Award. I was nominated by Raya and Nikki (thank you!!) and if you’re not already following them, you should definitely go check out their blogs! 🙂

The Rules

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you by linking their blog.
2. Answer the questions.
3. Nominate 11 blogs with 11 questions.
4. List the rules as well as display the Sunshine Award Logo on your post.

11 questions from Raya

[1] What’s a book you read that you would’ve been proud to have written?

Definitely The Hating Game! I love it so much, recommend it incessantly, and can only hope to someday be as talented at anything as Sally Thorne is at writing an enemies-to-lovers romance.

[2] What’s one movie or TV show you think you’d have liked to have read as a book?

Fun fact about me: I hardly ever watch anything. (This is how I have so much time to read.) It’s really rare for me to watch a movie by myself, but I’m happy to watch one with somebody if they ask. I used to watch a few TV shows, but over the last few months, I’ve really lost interest in most of those too. I guess one TV show that I think would make a good book is Misfits. I used to love that show when I was in college.

[3[ Is there a book that you personally liked a lot but wouldn’t recommend to others?

I tend to hesitate when recommending non-fiction. There are a number of non-fiction books that I’ve really enjoyed, but when it comes to recommendations, I usually go with fiction. It’s not that I wouldn’t recommend these books, just that I usually don’t.

[4] If you could read books by only one writer for the rest of your life, who would it be?

Jenn Bennett, because she’s never disappointed me.

[5] Which book character would you like to travel the world with?

Imagine traveling the world with Simon Spier. I feel like he’d be the best travel partner.

[6] What’s a book family you wouldn’t mind being a member of?

Marko, Alana, and Hazel are definitely an unconventional family, but they have so many adventures and clearly love each other so much.

[7] Who’s your favorite book couple?

I have a real soft spot for Josh and Lucy from The Hating Game. Yes, I can find a way to work The Hating Game into just about any conversation.

[8] What’s the most recent book that you bought / wanted-to-buy solely based on its cover?

Since it didn’t work out so well the last time I bought a book based solely on its cover, I don’t really do that anymore. But the cover plus the really mixed reviews I’ve seen of The Wicker King definitely didn’t hurt my chances of reading it. (Then I had a coupon for B&N, so I bought it.)

[9] What’s the funniest book that you have read?

It’s a tie between My Lady’s Choosing and The Secrets of the Starbucks Lovers. (Coincidentally by the same author duo.)

[10] What’s a generally hated character that you like?

I couldn’t even think of any generally hated characters, so I Googled it. The first result was Holden Caulfield and it really just hurts my heart that people hate him. He goes through so much in his life and he’s also so relatable.

[11] What’s the one place where you could never read a book?

I can read just about anywhere, but not in a moving car. Planes are fine, trains are a little iffy but sometimes okay, but cars? Nope. Instant migraine. It makes me so sad, but I guess that audiobooks make up for it.

11 questions from Nikki

[1] Who is your favorite superhero and why?

I don’t really keep up with superheroes very much, but if I had to choose one, I might go with Thor. I don’t really have a good reason. I just saw that first Thor movie several times with my best friend and he was the first superhero I thought of.

[2] What is your most anticipated release for 2019?

Currently, Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett!

[3] Who would you choose as your one and only book boyfriend?

I’ve said before that I prefer real people over fictional characters, but if I had to go with a book boyfriend, I’d probably choose Michael Phan from The Kiss Quotient. He’s just so perfect.

[4] If you could live in any book “world”, which would it be?

I think it would be awesome to live in Henrietta, VA and hang out with Blue Sargent and all the Raven boys.

[5] What was your favorite novel of 2018?

Nevernight!

[6] Pumpkin Spice or Chai?

Hmm, that’s a tough one. Probably pumpkin spice, although a chai latte used to be my go-to drink when I was in college.

[7] If you could choose one setting from any novel to live in, which would it be?

I think I’m going to stick with my answer to the fourth question: Henrietta, VA.

[8] If you could only read one novel for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Oh dear. I don’t really re-read books… like ever… but I suppose I should go with a favorite. I’m going to say Emergency Contact. It just put me in such a great mood. Hopefully it would keep having that same effect on me regardless of how many times I read it.

[9] Would you rather have a bent page in a book or a bent book jacket?

Give me one bent page any day.

[10] Fiction or non-fiction?

I will almost always choose fiction over non-fiction, although I am making an effort to read more non-fiction than I used to.

[11] Mystery or sci-fi?

It really depends on the book! I guess, in general, though, I’d go with sci-fi.

I’m not tagging anyone, but please feel free to answer either set of questions (or both!) if you’d like! If you do, please link back to this post so I can check out your answers. 🙂

Tag: Sunshine Blogger Award (Take 8)

I was nominated for an eighth(!!!) round of the Sunshine Blogger Award by AmandaCat, Siobhan, Eram, Write Where I ReadJamsuSaraEline, and Mani! Thank you all so much!! ❤

You can see all seven previous takes of this award here: 1 • 2 • 3 • 4 • 5 • 6 • 7

10 questions from Cat:

1.  Do you like to watch Booktubers?
I really try to stay away from Youtube since I’ll just fall into a rabbit hole of a million videos. If my self-control crumbles and I make my way to Youtube, then yes, I love watching people talk about books. I just watch whatever it recommends to me, though, I don’t have anybody in particular that I watch.

2. Do you like to write? If yes, what do you write?
Once upon a time, I was a journalism major who cried a lot over her writing being criticized and I pretty much came to the conclusion that writing is not in the cards for me. I love writing reviews and blog posts, but that’s about as far as it goes these days. I’m definitely not a writer.

3. Favourite city to visit
I love visiting New York! I could visit New York a thousand times and still never do everything that I want to do. There’s a Tim Burton bar there that I really want to visit the next time I’m up there.

4. If you were given $30 to spend on a book today, what book would you buy?
Well, now that I’ve read my most anticipated book ever, I’m not sure how to answer this question! I might preorder The Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason. That’s pretty high on my TBR right now.

5. What is one book you wish everyone would read?
THE HATING GAME

6. What’s been your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?
Recently, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. ❤

7. What’s the best book you have read this year so far?
I’m going to say that it’s probably Nevernight. I was so impressed by that book and it was really hard to put it down!

8. If you could teleport to any bookstore in the world where would you go?
Would you believe that in all the times I’ve been to New York, I’ve never gone to The Strand? I’d like to teleport there RIGHT NOW.

9. Where is your favourite place to read?
I mostly read on the couch in my living room, although I’m really not that picky. As long as I have a book and it’s relatively quiet, I can read anywhere.

10. Do you review books on your blog?
I sure do, usually at least five times a week. 🙂

11 questions from Amanda:

1. Top 3 non-series books- go.
✨ The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
✨ Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
✨ What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

2. NetGalley, Edelweiss or other?
I’m definitely pro-Netgalley. It’s the first website I really used for ARCs and it’s the one where I have the best luck. I’m denied for 99% of what I request on Edelweiss, although I did (shockingly, somehow) get approved for 99 Percent Mine. I also really like Penguin’s First to Read since I’ve had really good luck there so far, but there’s a really limited selection of books.

3. Favorite animal & why?
I love cats so much. Every cat on the planet is my favorite.  And why do I love cats? Well. They’re cute. They’re cuddly. They have an attitude but in a good way. They’re pretty self-sufficient. A purring cat on my lap is a pretty foolproof way to calm me down. I just love cats.

4. Book that you thought you were going to love and was super let down?
On a Tuesday by Whitney G. since I’ve liked most of what I’ve read from her. Also How to Breathe Underwater by Vicky Skinner because I usually really like Swoon Reads books!

5. Book that you thought you’d dislike and ended up loving?
My re-read of The Catcher in the Rye. I didn’t love it the first time I read it, but I absolutely adored it the second time around. I also wasn’t sure whether I’d like Nevernight, but I really, really did.

6. What genres do you enjoy the most?
I tend to love most contemporary YA. I also like romantic comedies. I’m kind of picky about my sci-fi and fantasy, but if it’s well-written and fast-paced, I’ll probably like it.

7. Where do you get your reads from (ie. book shops, online, library, etc)?
Setting aside ARCs, probably about half of what I read comes from the library. The other half is split pretty evenly between books that I’ve bought online (usually Amazon) and books that I’ve bought from a bookstore (usually Barnes & Noble). Although I have been known to order from TBD from time to time and if I find a cute indie bookstore, I will definitely buy something.

8. Book blogs you love following?
My favorite question!! I think that everybody knows Daniel (Page to Page) is my favorite book blogger of all time. I have a lot of favorite bloggers, though, and you can see a big list of them in my Top Ten Tuesday post!

9. Place you’d love to travel to, either in a book or in real life?
I would love to go to Spain. I’ve wanted to travel there for as long as I can remember.

10. Biggest blogging/blogger/book reviewer pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve when writing a review is probably when I can’t figure out how to put my feelings into words. This is usually when I either really loved or was indifferent to a book. I never have a problem talking about what I hated.

11. Favorite book review you’ve written, and link please!
My current favorite review is Troll because I don’t think I’ve ever had quite so much to say about a book before.

11 questions from Jamsu:

1. One of your happiest memories?
When I met Daniel and we went to Dollywood and it was the best. ❤

2. Top 5 NA books?
It’s been a long time since I read any NA books that I really loved, but here are five that I gave either four or five stars:

3. What snack/drink is your vice?
I don’t really have a drink vice. I guess maybe coffee since I would drink it all day if I could. But I don’t drink soda and rarely drink alcohol. For snacks, my biggest vice is any kind of sour candy. I love Sour Patch Kids and sour gummy worms.

4. How do you organize your books and why?
Books I’ve read are on my living room bookshelf and they’re more or less in a rainbow. Books I haven’t read are scattered throughout my whole house without really any organization. There used to be sort of a system, but I just keep buying more books and now there really isn’t.

5. What countries have you visited?
I went to Peru in 2010, Scotland in 2015, and Costa Rica in 2016.

6. Who’s your favorite TV villain?
Good question! I hardly watch any TV, and the shows I watch don’t really have villains, so I’m not sure how to answer this.

7. Favorite middle grade book?
The only middle-grade book I’ve read in at least fifteen years is City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab. It was fine, but I didn’t love it.

8. What kind of posts do you prefer to write and read?
I like reading AND writing really snarky book reviews.

9. How would you describe yourself?
I am an awkward and affectionate crazy cat lady. I am very bad at talking to people that I don’t know and even when I can think of something that I want to say, it usually comes out wrong. I’m a hugger, which probably doesn’t mix well with being awkward, but it is what it is. And I love every cat on the planet, including fictional ones.

10. What kind of coffee is your favorite?
If I’m at home, I only put half and half in my coffee. If I’m at a coffee shop, I just like a plain latte. I used to only be able to drink really sugary coffee drinks (a peanut butter cup frapp was my favorite when I was in high school) but now I just can’t drink sweet coffee.

11. Are you planning to take a part of Blogoween?
I thought about it, but no. Maybe next year. 🙂

I like spring because it means that winter is done.

5. What book reminds you of Fall?
Between the cover and the book itself, The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman.

THE HATING GAME

10. Which book are you anticipating (and/or fearing) to read?
My most anticipated for the year was What If It’s Us and now that I’ve read it… I’m kind of lost on how to answer this question. I have The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy but I haven’t read it yet, so I’m really anticipating that one. (I’m also a little afraid because I’ve seen some really glowing reviews and also some negative ones.)

11. If you could change the ending of a book, which book would it be and why?
Warcross, maybe. I think I would have liked it more with a different ending.

11 questions from Eram and Write Where I Read:

1. What is the meaning behind your blog name?
I was looking up words for book lovers and came across bibliophagist, which literally means “one who devours books.”

2. Dog person, cat person, neither, or both?
I’m such a cat person.

3. If you could own any animal as a pet without harming it or people around you, what would you pick and why?
Honestly, the only pet I want is a cat. ❤

4. What is your favorite book from childhood?
I loved everything by Tamora Pierce! If you want a little younger, probably Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Even younger… my favorite Golden Book was Doctor Dan the Bandage Man. 🙂

5. Do you have a place you like to go to de-stress after a long/tough day?
If it’s a Friday, I like to go to the farm by my house. Otherwise, sometimes I wander around my neighborhood or I just lock myself in my bedroom.

6. What would be the perfect book for you? I’m talking plot, genre, characters, themes, diversity, the whole shebang.
A romantic comedy about two friends who fall in love and silently pine over each other because neither of them thinks that the other could possibly fall for them. There would be so much sexual tension that I almost die. The characters have to actually talk to each other and they can’t run away from their feelings. They actually maintain their friendship because I can’t stand it when the friendship falls apart once feelings get involved. It should be slow burn but not any of that nonsense where they finally kiss two pages before the book ends.

7. Do you have any sort of comfort item (for example, a stuffed animal, a favorite blanket, a book, a particular music album, etc.)?
My cat is probably my biggest comfort item, although she isn’t really “an item” in the strict sense of the word. She does make me very happy, though. I also have a lot of albums I listen to when I want to feel better since usually any song I like will help cheer me up.

8. Hot weather or cold weather?
Give me hot weather any day.

9. What’s the goofiest way you injured yourself?
I was once so into an audiobook that I was listening to that I almost chopped my finger off with a mandoline.

10. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I would love to be able to teleport.

11. Are there any particular goals (personal, book, blog, etc) that you have for the rest of 2018?
I don’t have any particular book- or blog-related goals for the year, but I would like to get through as much of my TBR as I can. I have accumulated a huge amount of books this year and ideally I’ll read all of them by the end of the year.

In my personal life, there’s kind of a lot going on right now and I have a bunch of goals related to that. For once, though, I’m not going to overshare on my blog. 🙂 One personal goal I’ll share is to apply for as many publishing jobs as I can and hopefully at least get an interview.

Definitely Costa Rica.

3. If you didn’t have a book blog, would you have another kind of blog?

11 questions from Eline:

1. Which fictional character would you like most to be real?
MICHAEL PHAN ❤ ❤ ❤

2. Where would you go and what would you do if you had an endless budget for a vacation?
There a lot of places that I would like to visit at some point, so I would like to just hop around and spend a few days in each place. I don’t necessarily like to do things when I travel. I mean, I’ll go see a thing or two each day, but I’m not one of those people who needs to keep every second occupied to make the vacation worth it. Some places I’d like to visit are the west coast of the US, Spain, and South Korea. I’ve also been to New York so many times but there are so many things I still want to do there.

3. What do you honestly like most about blogging?
The thing that I honestly like most about blogging is making friends.

A career in publishing!!

6. When do you stop and DNF a book? Do you give it a set number of pages or just based on feeling?
I very rarely DNF a book, but if I do, it’s for one of two reasons. The first is that it just kills any love I have of reading. (Example: The Last Time I Lied) The second is that it stresses me out and I don’t feel like it’s worth it. (Example: Why We Sleep) I try to give it a fair shot and make it to at least page 100, but it doesn’t always happen.

7. What’s a genre or type of book you want to read more of?
Mysteries!

8. What’s your top three favourite books of the last year?
💜 What If It’s Us
