I recently posted a list of books with low average ratings on Goodreads that I actually enjoyed. Today I’m going to flip that around and talk about the books on my TBR with low average ratings and why I want to read them!
Meternity by Meghann Foye
Goodreads average: 3.04 stars
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway about three years ago and I still haven’t read it because of that average rating. It’s probably the only book on this list that I don’t actually want to read, but feel obligated to because the publisher sent me a free copy. I’m hoping to read this at some point this year, but… I’ve also been saying that for the last three years.
Providence by Caroline Kepnes
Goodreads average: 3.37 stars
This book might not have the best ratings, but I know that Caroline Kepnes can write. You was the best book I read in April and I’m planning to read Hidden Bodies soon. It only makes sense to see what else she’s written.
There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
Goodreads average: 3.38 stars
I’m a big fan of Stephanie Perkins’ fluffy YA romances. Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door, Isla and the Happily Ever After… I loved all of them. Mostly I want to read this book to see how she handles a thriller.
Lucky in Love by Kasie West
Goodreads average: 3.51 stars
I’ve liked and disliked books that I’ve read by Kasie West. I never quite know what I’m in for with her, but this one sound cute!
The Babysitters Coven by Kate Williams
Goodreads average: 3.53 stars
I loved The Babysitters Club books when I was younger, and now we’re adding witches to the mix? PLEASE. I’m not sure why this book has such low ratings, so I’m still pretty excited to read it.

I love the idea for a post, I’ve often found that the Goodreads rating and my opinion of a book are at odds. I have Meternity to read and I’m hoping it will be fun!

This is such a fun post idea! The lowest rated on my TBR is 99% Mine by Sally Thorne, which has 3.52. I was surprised by that because I loved The Hating Game and I was excited by the synopsis of this one. Oh well, I’ll read it anyway 😊

Thank you! And I didn’t realize 99 Percent MIne had such a low average! I read that one last year and while I didn’t love it as much as The Hating Game, it wasn’t a bad book. I hope you like it!

Wow, these averages aren’t even that bad! These are your lowest on your TBR? My TBR is HUGE the lowest books on my TBR rate under a 3.0

My Goodreads TBR really only has books that I want to buy myself on it, plus ARCs I haven’t read yet. I have another couple hundred books that I already own that aren’t on there. I just checked a few of the books on my shelf and one of them has a 2.56 average! Yikes! My owned TBR might make for an interesting post, but it would take an awfully long time to go through my shelves and look up the average rating of each book.

I have tons of books on Goodreads. I have a shelf that is “want to buy” then my ARCs have a shelf, then books that I own have a shelf. So I just looked at all my books together under “want to read” (which is 3506 books). Some of their ratings are super low and some of them no one has rated at all yet.

Very interesting post! I haven’t read any of these books, but I saw the TV show adaptation of Caroline Kepnes’ ‘You’ and found it very gripping. She seems to be a fascinating author. Happy reading!

I know a lot of people (including me, oops) have a tendency to rate books based on how well they sit next the author’s other works. I’m wondering if a lot of people gave these low ratings because they didn’t live up to standards that were brought about from past reading? Though I’d never read anything by Stephanie Perkins before and I still didn’t enjoy her first thriller novel.
