So, Practice Makes Perfect should have been a book that I loved. It’s an enemies-to-lovers office romance, which is basically my favorite thing ever. I mean, The Hating Game is one of my all-time favorites! But maybe I missed something? Maybe I’ve been in a bad mood for several weeks and that’s why I haven’t liked most of what I’ve read? But I feel like I read a different book than all of these people who’ve left glowing five-star reviews on Goodreads.

I’ll keep my review short and sweet: I didn’t like either of the main characters, I didn’t feel any chemistry between them, and I thought that JD was unnecessarily mean to Payton for no real reason and he never really even tried to make things right. Also, JD’s whole thing about how difficult life is as a rich white man drove me absolutely crazy and not even Payton’s feminist ideals could redeem the book for me.

    Aww I’m sorry you didn’t like it so much! 😦

    I’ll be real, I first read this one a couple years ago when the political climate was arguably less tense than it is these days. I revisited the book a while back and still liked it, but definitely noticed more of the problematic aspects than I did before. Sometimes comedies in fiction are meant to be silly harmless fun but depending on real life circumstances they can lose a lot of their humour.

    I haven’t read much of Julie James’s FBI/US Attorney series, although I’ve been aware of them for a long time now, so if you do read and review them I’d love to hear your thoughts!

      It’s okay! This is definitely a book that I would have liked a lot more a few years ago than I did now. (I’ve also been in a big reading slump recently and have disliked books I might ordinarily like.)

      I will definitely post a review if/when I read that series!
