Halloweentown: Where is your favorite place to go for Halloween or a place you want to go?
Halloween was never really that big of a deal for me growing up because it was my grandma’s birthday! We’d always go over to her house and I’d trick or treat a little bit in her neighborhood and then we’d celebrate her birthday. When I got older, I never really cared that much about celebrating because it wasn’t something I’d ever really done.
I think it would be fun to do something moderately spooky, but nothing terrifying! My friend wants me to go on this haunted prison tour with her sometime, but I think I might actually die.
Under Wraps: What’s something that used to be scary to you and then you realized it wasn’t just the mummy in this movie?
There was this little bit of sidewalk that kind of dipped down next to the house I grew up in. My mom would tell me to be careful on it, which, as an adult, I realize basically just meant “you’re clumsy, don’t trip.” As a kid, though? I was convinced that the sidewalk was going to open up and I was going to fall down to the other side of the world (or maybe just to the center of the earth, because I was super into Jules Verne at that point in my life). One day a neighbor dared me to walk across it and I didn’t die and my whole worldview was shattered. (In a good way.)
Tower of Terror: What is the scariest place you’ve ever been?
So my uncle has a little cabin in the middle of nowhere in northern Wisconsin. I used to go spend a week or two with his family every summer and it was generally a lot of fun! His son is two days older than me and it’s been a point of contention for the last 28 years (or maybe 27 years, because I don’t think we were arguing about it as infants, but I wouldn’t put it past us) because he always thought he was cooler than me because of it. Anyway, one day he was all like, “Sara, I’m older and you have to listen to what I say and we’re going to play in the cornfield!!” And I was like… “Ugh, fine, I guess we are.” I think we were eight. Anyway, this kid left me alone in the middle of the cornfield and I could not find my way out and it was terrifying. Like, I think that’s the most scared I have ever been in my life. Also, this is pretty much the most stereotypically midwestern story you could have and I’m sorry.
Twitches: If you could be any supernatural creature, what would you be?
I think I’ll stick with Mandy’s answer. It would be pretty cool to be a witch.
Don’t Look Under the Bed: Were you scared of monsters when you were a kid? When did it stop?
YES. I was so convinced that a monster lived under my bed. And that it would come out if I closed my bedroom door, so I slept with my door open for the first… ten or eleven years of my life? I also thought that if any part of me wasn’t covered by the blanket, the monster would get me. I don’t know when I grew out of it, really. We moved right before middle school and I don’t remember worrying about it after that.
Phantom of the Megaplex: Do you watch scary movies? If so, what is your favorite or the one you got most afraid of?
NOOO. I can’t watch scary movies. I was traumatized by Child’s Play when I was very, very, very young and I have never wanted to watch a scary movie since. I have to really like someone to agree to watch something scary with them.
The Scream Team: Who would be on your dream team if you went on a ghost/supernatural creature hunt?
I’d want Evie O’Neill from The Diviners series and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire: Have you ever witnessed something/someone that could only be explained by the paranormal? If yes, what/who?
The house I grew up in was built in 1884 and I’m like 99.9% convinced that it was at least semi-haunted. There was one night when I was maybe like eight or nine years old that I remember looking up at the ceiling in the dining room and seeing a creepy kid’s face. But we’d also been watching some kind of ghost hunter show on TLC, so it might have all been in my head.
More recently, I am 100% convinced that I have seen the ghost of my cat that died last November. Sometimes I’ll see her out of the corner of my eye when I know that my still living cat is in a very different part of the house. I would be the kind of person to be haunted by a cat, but I’m also okay with it.
Oh, and another one — I was very close to my grandpa when I was a baby. He died when I was two years old and my mom swears that before she got the call from my grandma, she woke up to me giggling. When she went into my room and asked what I was laughing about, I supposedly told her that grandpa said hi. I have no idea if this actually happened or not since I have no memory of it, but that’s the story from my mom. Spooky.
Thanks for the tag! These are really thoughtful questions and I liked the insights into your life. Being left alone on a cornfield sounds something out of a horror movie, though! I’d have been terrified too!

You’re welcome! And it was so scary! Thankfully, my cousin has gotten to be a little less of a jerk with age. 🙂

THE CORNFIELD OMG I WOULD HAVE BEEN SCARED TOO
And, also, I learned so much as to why you’re spooked by things. Glad you survived The Witch

IT WAS SO SCARY I COULD HAVE DIED OF FRIGHT
I’m a little surprised (but also glad) that I survived The Witch. I would watch another spooky movie with you though.

So I’m from little tiny England with creepy old churches and places where the devil was supposed to have danced and mists that roll in across fields for no reason this time of year but…. nothing is more scary to me than the concept of the Big American Cornfield. I mean they are objectively terrifying. I don’t know what it is but it’s the idea of all that space and all the tall stalks and anything could be watching… I’m freaking myself out now.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me being an overly dramatic child! I hardly remember anything other than being absolutely terrified and somehow ending up back at the cabin, but I’m pretty sure my cousin got in a lot of trouble because of it.

Nope, definitely not overdramatic! I wouldn’t have fared well either!

I’m 99.9% sure the house I grew up in was haunted. I am convinced I saw a girl chilling on the couch in my basement once… actually I saw her through a mirror and when I turned to apologize for not realizing she was there, yup I knew right away she was a ghost and went about my business. Other stuff has happened in the house, but that was the one apparition I experienced.
I love the story about your grandpa visiting you when he passed. After my great grandmother passed a few years ago I had a dream that she told me not to be sad for her, that she was okay. I told my mom, who told my grandma (who was down in Ecuador to be with her mom as she passed) and that’s when we learned that another family had the same dream on the same night. spooooooky. but, nice spooky ❤

Oh wow, your story about the girl on the couch! I don’t know if I would have been able to go in the basement again!
And your story about your great-grandmother! That is a very spooky story, but it is spooky in a nice way. ❤

A haunted prison tour sounds oddly fun to me lol. And I’m kind of a scaredy cat haha. Also my cousin tried to lose me too! The jerk.

What’s wrong with cousins, jeez!! And I really don’t know about a haunted prison tour. I could probably do it, but I might be scarred for life. 🙂

Okay, I know I helped create this tag but please let it not be vain to say I LOVE this tag. I don’t like horror or scary stuff but … I really like hearing everyone’s spooky/scary experiences?? All these answers were sooo interesting!! I would have curled up in a ball if someone left me in a cornfield… there are way too many scary films with cornfields, so no thanks!! You saying your grandfather “said hi” … I mean, that’s it, I’m convinced. I really go think ghosts exist though. It makes too much sense.
A part of me is like YES haunted prison tour, so much fun! And another part is like, please remember who you are. You will take one step inside and scream your head off when the tour guide walks up to say hi, convinced its a ghost.
Thanks for doing the tag!!!

Not vain at all!! You made such a great tag! And I’m so glad you enjoyed my answers and my spooky experiences. Thanks for making a tag where I could talk about them!
And the haunted prison tour… my friend and I have talked about it a few times and she assures me that I’ll probably die if we do it, but I’m still a tiny bit tempted??

“Probably die” sounds like a good sell to me. I say go for it!!

This is such a neat tag! SO MUCH NOSTALGIA! Especially Halloweentown.
The house I lived in definitely had a ghost in it, who also ended up being my imaginary friend lol. Very weird and creepy.

Oh, I know! I loved all of these movies when I was growing up!! And I can’t say that I ever befriended the ghosts of my childhood home, but it’s actually very nice that your ghost became your imaginary friend. 🙂

I’d love to be a witch and I’d definitely choose Buffy!

I think Buffy would be so much fun to do just about anything with, but especially anything with supernatural creatures. 🙂

Reading your answers was so entertaining! You have so many cool stories 🙂 By any chance, is the tour you’re talking about in the first answer Eastern State Penitentiary? Also, if you don’t like horror movies and you’re afraid of cornfields, definitely do NOT watch Jeepers Creepers 2 haha 😉

Yes, it is!! My friend said she went a few years ago and almost died of fright! (She still wants to go back though.)
Also, I will definitely NOT watch Jeepers Creepers 2, thank you for the warning.
